Hi, I have just obtained some suitable brass gauze, or mesh, to allow me to make replacement vaporiser tube gauze parts for No.96 and No.100 stoves:

    Primus No.96 vaporiser or "Lipstick":

    Primus No.100 vaporiser or "Lipstick":

    The photos are largely self-explanatory:

I have shown images of the two burners with their existing vaporiser gauzes alongside. I then show the shiny replacement gauze cylinders, and the mesh strips from which they were rolled.

The new gauzes are rolled tight enough to allow insertion into their respective vaporiser tubes. The mesh cylinders are then pushed to the top of the vaporiser cylinder, so that they are securely located under the jet aperture.

I tried out the No.96 vaporiser with the new gauze and it worked very well. The pre-heat time before the burner was ready for fuel pressure to be applied seemed shorter. Perhaps the new gauze offers better heat transfer.

I have plenty of this good quality brass mesh and would offer, at reasonable prices, to supply CCS members with pre-cut sections, ready to "roll you own" for your vaporiser.

    Best Regards,
    Kerophile.

    Good Morning, Kerophile,

Excellent! I am still working on getting the time to cut, install, and test the mesh that I already bought, which is an 80 mesh, but if that does not work, then I will be getting in line to purchase some of the mesh you have obtained. Thank you for your efforts, and well done!!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc

My 123R is surging, I'll try to re-roll the wire mess more neatly to see if that helps.
I'll ask the local hardware store to save on shipping for A4 or 80 mesh as mentioned?

Also interested to purchase this June 2015 post depending on availability from Kerophile.

Uh, check your wick. No mesh in your stove unless you listed the wrong stove. I just bought a sheet of #20 gauze from McMaster-Carr.

    Duane,

Will do, thanks for the heads up, maybe it was in my 96? I know I saw it in one of them.
Surging is in the 123R, not sure why so was thinking this could be the answer.
Either way I'll get it to have on hand. Adding 20 mesh to the 80 & A4 mesh list.

    All the Best, Wolfie~

I've read differing mesh count. Rechecked my old mesh from a 96 a few times before ordering, counted 24. Unable to find diameter threads called for, but I went by thread count. Looked and looked. Think I have enough to replace most of my 96's etc. if needed. I just soak the mesh in vinegar, brush with a brass brush rinse in gas, good to go.

Hi, ask the CCS owner, Ross, at fettlebox. I know that he has some because he got brass mesh from me.

Stove Washer Kits - The Fettlebox

I am not at home at the moment or I would try to help you.

    Season’s Greetings,
    Kerophile.

    Thank you for reply
I just put in an order for seals and washers with Fettlebox today but I will contact him and ask about wire mesh
Looking to know what size mesh is best to use and must it be brass or can it be steel

All the stove manufacturers used brass mesh, I believe. However, I’m sure there are users out there who have tried steel mesh ( fly screen mesh).
Steel does not conduct heat very well, it rusts, and the rust that spalls off will likely block the jet……. But it is cheap,
