Another 111 rescued from the skip, or in this case, a garage, how can people be so thoughtless Cleaned up well
Hi Rik, nice "Honest" stove and great photos. I can't see why some people bother with Coleman fuel, petrol, meths, and diesel when Paraffin ( Kerosene) does the job so well! It has got to be the fuel of the future! Regards, Kerophile.
Quite right too, in fact I've recieved two ex army 111's which were in a similar gloss shade? I'll need to find a source of heat resistant matt army green really, any ideas? This one is of to a chum of mine who is into canoeing big time and likes the colour (I do as well, must be an age thing )
Those fuels have properties that some folks like, want, or need. Coleman fuel is available within a five minute walk of almost every person in The US. Automotive Gasoline is even easier to obtain. Alcohol (meths) is available in any hardware, paint and marine outlet, is clean burning, and can be extinguished in an eyeblink with water, a Godsend to anyone who has ever had a stove flare up aboard a boat. Diesel is handy if one's boat runs on it. In the US kerosene is a bit inconvenient to find at retail. Also, whether one feels it's unfortunate or not, and if sales are any yardstick, propane, butane, and blends are actually the fuels of the future. At least in the "First World." Gerry
As a newbie to Kero and located with-in a two minute drive to most any sporting goods, hardware, Filling station. I am more inclined to burn Kero. I even find myself searching out more kero lamps and stoves. I find it almost carefree (not careless) to Coleman. I am still getting used to the odor but It burns just as nice and @ almost $2.00 per Gal cheaper. I seached out a bulk supply of Kero in about 2 min. Using the yellow pages. Its as easy as taking a fuel container to the local filling station. The cool thing I really like about Kero is In the US it is also called JET-A Its sounds much cooler when you tell your freinds that your little Opti #00 runs on JET FUEL!!
Rik, You have become quite the fettler. And to think you once told me you were a fair fettler. Soon you will have Tilley lamps burning bright!!! Chuck
Cheers Chuck I've fettled around a dozen 111's for different people since August/September, so I know the stoves well now, and usually have some spares to hand which makes life easy. I've another two to work on, but there is no rush for them so they can stay on the shelf a while. I love the simple yet very funtional design of the case, and the stove itself uses tried and tested components, whats not to like Strange thing is, I love the 123's, but don't think all that much of the 8 series, weird or what
Hey, Rik, Excellent job on the 111! That model is a wonderful stove, and it's well worth picking up as many as possible! Not found too often here in the States, however. I think I've only seen one at a swap meet, and unfortuately, I did not buy it. The previous owner had painted the case silver, and I decided that I didn't want to mess with kero. Yeah, tell me about it!! Too soon old, and too late smart!! That was another $20 stove that I let slip between my stupid fingers.......!! Again, great job, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc Mark
Polished Brass, a blue flame and a Cherry Red glow, what's not to like ? Nice work Rik. Keep em Burnin' Spudz
Sweet stove, Rik! I was just out in the garage tweaking the chain, checking the oil and generally sorting the Honda for the ride to work tomorrow. I also spent a couple of minutes fiddling with the Primus #5 I picked up for NZ$5 today, complete and unbiffed it'll be such an easy clean up. The fuel cap seal was hard as rock, of cause, but thanx to Barrabruce I have a couple of bits of nitrile I can carve a new one out from 8) The leather was fine, I just gave it a drop of 3-in-1 oil to be going on with and put it back. This one will be a present to my step father in law, I promised him one ages ago. I also briefly fondled the tank and burner from one of my 111's, again thanx to Bruce I have a new leather for it. I've already cleaned up the brass work, just need to spring clean the box and re-paint. Time to extracto digito and finish the electro-tank......I've got 3 or 4 cases awaiting the treatment...2x8R, 111, 22 and some bike bits I want to refurbish. I picked up a beefy looking 24 volt transformer a while back, would that be too much?
Any way to hack in there and turn this idiots computer into a roarer with a nice blue flame? Wishful thinking.
Another for rescue http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....MEWN:IT&viewitem=&item=130067995610&rd=1&rd=1 Henry, before you ask, this one will be painted black
Hi Rik A great win on eBay. The 111B is an outstanding stove - as you know only too well. Also, the bid amount was very good considering the popularity of this stove. Hopefully you will show us some 'cherry' photos.
