Well, I saw a catalog offer from a Swiss milsurp dealer. Seemed too good to be true. Meta 50s, well-used, no inner ring or burner for CHF 6.50 each, M-71 'sterno' can for CHF 3.50 and Borde Flask/Cooker CHF 12.50. I was over the moon with greed. All that for CHF 29! Then at check out, the bad news. Shipping to AZ is CHF 74.50. That killed the deal. They did have the large diameter Svea/Trangia <<Messingpintli - #07 Spirit - Petrollampe>> for 24.50, very well battered. Cheers, Brian
Hi, I recently got a Meta-50 stove from a military surplus store's special days. I think it has all the pieces expect one of the two bowls. It cost me as much as 3 euros. It is in nice condition with little dirt or bumps. Mine is definitely a newer model as it has the newer type of burner holder. Mine did not come with the traditional Trangia's McGyver Pliers and the leather strap used to lock all the components.
Was that from Varusteleka? They have made an effort to be US-friendly and only charge 9.99 flat-rate shipping to the USA. Their online catalog will translate to English. I've gotten some nice stuff from them: East German Zeltbahns, Sarma folding stick stove, and Kalakukko, etc. Their shipping is sometimes faster than some in-country sellers. Their catalog shows a quirky sense of humor, too. The strap and potgrippers aren't hard to replace, but it'll cost more that 3 Euro.
Yeah, it was from Leka. I sometimes visit them if they have special events, like 5 times a year maybe. There was also a used as hell Trangia with half of the pieces missing for the same price of 3€. It was so dirty, used and bumpy that no one would buy it, I saw one dude buy it and realised later that it seems I bought one of the Trangia's parts in accident as the cookers' parts were all scattered around. Well, the cooker seems to be nice and I think it was a good buy. I own a burner, the McGyver pliers and a strap already. It seems the Meta-50 I have was made like in the 1990s?
They look like a fun outfit. Wish I could hang out at their store and drink beer. You musta snagged the last Meta-50 in Northwestern Europe. Good score. They don't list one on their web/catalog. I typed in ''Meta-50'' and ''stormcooker'' and got nothing. I got a new-to-me Sigg Tourist [with potgripper and strap] that fits my Svea 123 this summer. So I'm good on cooksets.
Upon inspecting more closely the META-50, I was quite puzzled, the metal part that goes above the burner could not fit to the thing that holds your pots over the burner. I figured it out - the metal part that goes above the burner was from a Trangia and that is why they would not fit. Well I personally do not care about that so I am going to use it anyway.
