Past experience, where I have found two lead washers under the "lipstick", I've had to remove one to stop leakage. Today, I did that, lipstick conformed the new washer to shape, but after 90 minutes or more fighting air bubbles, soldering multiple times thinking and what looked like leaks from the top bung, I put a rubber washer down there and leaks stopped. I also had to solder the air screw base as it leaked, went the rounds with it too. I was not happy with having a rubber washer in use, I did not want to use my last lead washer, so pieced together one washer I had pulled out and got it to fill in ok. No leaks. This was on a "E" dated Primus 96 I just took possession of, thanks to @presscall, for facilitating the shipping. Duane
I spent time last week fiddling with my 96 reserve cap, trying to keep it from leaking, until I thought I was going to lose the last of my hair (and I don’t have much to contribute). Ended up using one lead washer and one o-ring. Of course the o-ring will have to be removed to fire the stove. Basil
I dont have any washers big enough for these older 96's, need some at 19mm, I've used orings when nothing else will do or out of a certain size. Duane
Ross, I need to see your offerings, the 18mm is a little loose, I poked a 19mm O-ring in the cap and it fits as does a thick 19mm washer I think I got from Old Coleman Parts. It was cut with one side noticeably wider, so that side went in first. I don't utilize the reserve cap, not trusting it to seal, so when backpacking with most kero stoves, I bring a separate container for the fuel. I forgot to mention, after the one new lead washer was shaped to the shape of the hole and the lipstick, I couldn't tighten the lipstick more as it was stopped by the surfaces where the top of the bung hits the bottom of the lipstick nut, the bung depth was a bit too deep. Two lead washers were needed or the oring. Duane
Minor leak again, looks like it is coming from the seam where the bung is soldered to the fount. Been going round and round with it. Few pics from this morning. Duane
