Hi there all, my problem has probably been dealt with numerous times so please forgive me. I got my 8R in 1986 and has now began to loose pressure and a small flame comes from the filler cap where the mini pump attaches, I have spent 3 days on the net and numerous OS calls to find solution, can anyone please help, cheers.
Sounds like the pip in the SRV needs to be replaced or at least looked at. Some are like the NRV in bigger stoves and can be unscrewed from the lower part of the cap then the pip replaced. Pic might help. Duane
Thanks Duane, the pic shows a small blue flame coming from the cap, as I increase the pressure with the mini pump the flame gets bigger, naturally. Can you suggest where I may be able to obtain the pip I need? thanks.
Hello @neale . You will need something like an 'Allen Key' but with a pentagon shape on the end instead of the hexagonal shape the 'Allan Key' has, to disassemble the Tank lid to get at the pip. While you are doing that, you best replace the rubber seal under the tank lid at the same time. Parts are available from 'The Fettle Box' which appears on the right hand side of this page. I have found that you are in Australia and there may be an Australian member who might be able to help you out including getting the correct parts for you. Cheers, John NZ
Was thinking after my reply, the SRV in your cap is like a normal NRV since the cap is designed for the external pump. Grip the cap and unscrew the lower part that extends into the tank with pliers, the pip will be in the lower part, on top of a spring. May scar the lower part if it is stuck good. There are two sizes of pips. Duane
Here is the info your looking for to rebuild your cap https://classiccampstoves.com/threa...-8r-mini-pump-cap-revealed.33084/#post-338011
@neale Where do you live in Australia? I’ve got the right tool to take that cap apart and would be happy to fix this for you, but I won’t be back in Oz for three weeks. Contact me through “Conversations” if you want to chat privately. Cheers Tony
If grabbing with pliers, and you wish to preserve the appearance, wrap the item with some leather. Or hold in a drill chuck.
