Current fuel prices in my neck of the woods as of yesterday. I filled my two 5 gallon cans with Jet A for $37.90. Took a friend who filled a 55 gallon drum of Jet A and saved ten cents per gallon on my purchase because my friend has a Shell aviation card. Crown camping fuel - 7.80 per gallon can. From my local full service gas station Dyed kerosene $5.59 per gallon Clear Kerosene $7.59 per gallon #2 heating oil aka K2 (I verified it is not off road diesel. I know the guy who hauls their fuels to the station and asked him myself. ) $3.40 per gallon. Jet A $3.79 self service. $4.10 full service I recommend that if you use your kerosene and Coleman fuel stoves frequently start stocking up on fuel now because prices are going to get higher very soon. I put together a really nice, simple, safe, hidden, affordable, odorless, and equipped with with 12 volt electric pump for filling stoves or heaters indoor storage tank. If anyone is interested in my indoor storage tank let me know I would be happy to share how I built my new one. Much safer and easier to use than the old one. Girlfriend loves the new one which is even better ☺
Bought two 5 gallon Kerosene cans from Autozone on sale for $10.00 each blue plastic Midwest Can Company. For Jet A I recommend buying a ATV or racing fuel jug because the mouth on the jug is big and works with the nozzle at an airport pump like a jeep can. Currently Cycle Gear has a 2.7 gallon jug that would be a great size for Jet A for 20.00 and I am going to get one.
Good to see you around! Would love to see your indoor fueling rig. Prices here are skyrocketing too. Bought a 55 gallon drum of kero not long ago for $100. Wish I had bought all four the guy had instead of just the one.
I would have not been able to resist that price for clear or red dyed kerosene or even real K2 aka stove oil and bought all four drums. Would save me money in the long run. That's a little less than $2.00 per gallon I'm thinking 1.80 ? My kerosene usage per year is I'm going to guess is 190 to 250 gallons. I have the numbers written in a journal. Using kerosene like I do for lighting, heating, and cooking it actually saves big on my electricity bill. Gives me extra money for more stoves and other projects.
A bit of interest for the North East lads. http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/hi...ivered_fuel_across_south_Durham_for_50_years/
If paraffin/kerosene is in short supply in your neck of the woods, Jet-A1 from the local airport is excellent quality fuel - or else look for your nearest industrial solvents supplier. Fuel distributors also carry "light boiler fuel", which is basically kerosene/paraffin/red diesel. In South Africa, it has a pleasant almond scent added so the cops can sniff your fuel tank for illicit diesel fuel.
Jet A1 has de-icing additives. If you can get jet fuel it is suggested to get Jet A instead. Some 'Down Under' have said that they cannot get Jet A, so they do purchase jet A1. Ken in NC
Jet-A1 does have a freezing point a few degrees lower than Jet-A, but that's only because the distillate has less of the waxes that crystallize at low temps. The main difference is that A1 has a static dissipator additive that makes it more conductive, thus reducing the risk of sparks starting fires when fueling. I doubt it would make the slightest difference in a camp stove though! Jet fuels have very low ash content since deposits on turbine blades is a big no no.
found an ebay seller in uk who has the campingaz cv360 cans seller id tenthire1 £30 for box of 6 with free postage the same £30 would get you 28 cans of this I think that is what they call a no-brainer
so that works out at 6 cans @ 52g each for £30 = £96 per kilo or 28 cans @ 220g each for £30 = £4.8 per kilo that makes a rando 360 a very expensive stove to run! to buy the equivalent amount of butane in cv360 cans would cost the thick end of 600 quid!!
IMO, it's curious that most big retail stores here sell those butane cans for $5 apiece and sometimes more, yet I found them at a little independent grocery for $1.69. They are branded as Gas One. I usually pick up a couple whenever I'm there. That sounds like a good thing.
Get yours in Norther California from me. I have GaZ, iso/butane, LP, colemax, and about 50 one gallon cans of coleman fuel. Id post it in classifieds but I guess I do t have a high enough post count to do so. Ive got far more than I can use. Also collect the lamp oil when I can find it and have saved about five gallons. I dont use much kero aside from a perfection heater so its of little use to me.
When i moved to Wolverhampton from Somerset i found GB Fuels in Birmingham, good quality Kero at 63p a litre. Min spend £10 From the pump. Or you can buy their 20 or 25 litre containers for £12.60 and £15.75 or if you need a doomsday supply then 205 litre barrel for £129.15. Much cheaper than the rip off B & Q offerings.
@Army J 63p per litre of paraffin (kerosene) is a bargain. By the way, welcome to CCS. I am sure you will have a happy and informative time here.
Thanks, it's a great place to get much needed info. And chat with like minded people. I've only got 7 stoves at the moment. Coleman 442, Primus Himalaya, Primus Omnifuel, a No2, a No12, and two No3's. Plus a few Tilley lamps etc. Keeps me sane.
Glad to see that other stovies find their hobby keeps them sane! At the end of a tough day it's nice to brew a cuppa on my Enders 9061D or the 111b and then read to the light and gentle hiss of a Tilley X246 Guardsman. Sometimes it's bliss!
