Was wondering if one had the advantage output wise ive got a primus 5 here which is a fine though not very powerful stove.. and an optimus 22 seems quite powerful ive not actually run one agains the other just got the 22 out of storeage and marvelled at the noise with both burners operating

New to me roarer has a minute on the 4 banged up silents, and my 22.
Coleman Solus roarer 2.30 rolling boil, 2.50 steam engine, same kettle with 500mls of water into cold kettle each time.
But I as I thought the 22 apears to need new jets as after using one of its flame rings on the Coleman roarer it's almost clean brass, always a bit black on the 22.

They should have the same heat output if both are running efficiently with the same jet and pressure.

I prefer roarer burners, but mostly because of the sound they make. I've always assumed they were a little faster but I'm not really interested in speed tests as I never use any of my stoves in extreme weather.

I am Partial to a Roarer burner. I, like Colin like the Noise !! I also think they are less maintenance. That is just my opinion. I have both but always go camping with an 8R or 111 Kero both Roarers. For some reason the silent don't go to a good simmer when making coffee. If I need to be doing something to make a Silent go way down to a simmer without going out then let me know and I will take one camping next time.

Since/if jet size is same with same pressure power output in theory should be same.

I have used 111 and 111T on my winter trips in a tent. I have noticed that 111 boils water more quickly and it heats up the tent more faster than 111T. I assume that it's easier to have more pressure in tank with 111 than with 111T. If you put high pressure to tank on 111T flames seem to get distance from outer cap and I feel that there is too much pressure for the burner. With 111 it is quite impossible to put too much pressure to tank. 111 burner will work fine with high pressure also.

Roarer directs flames to pot's/kettle's bottom so I assume that it's more efficient by construction than silent burner. If there is any gust heat from silent burner is blown away more easily than from roarer burner.

I do prefer the roarer too ill give the 22 a run today on the wonder oven maybe its just the noise that makes them seem more powerful wishing my primus5 was a primus#1 but those seem very uncommon here

My display image shows my Enders 9061D that came with a silent burner as standard, but I retro fitted an Optimus 8R roarer burner to it and after a bit of messing about drilling extra holes to get the air mix correct, I now have a 9061D with a roarer burner and boy does she go! I still have the silent burner and could put it back any time but I probably wont - it's way too much fun now!

I guess its the built in needle but find the optimus roarer a trouble free device compared to the silent on the primus kinda nice not having to rush to the pricker when its unhappy though I've noticed my kero 22 much more reliable than my petrol 111b in that respect the petrol seems to need the needle every time I run it

Strangely the 22 wasnt able to get the oven as hot as the primus 5 but still prefer roarer burner just wish the primus was fitted with one 22 wins on fuel economy wonder how long it would go on one burner 2 hours only dropped the fuel level an inch I will shout it new jets to see of the low flame can be improved

Jet sizes for optimii ,just pulled the brand new jet from my 111b and trying to fit it to a 22 kero its got 3 stamped on top would I be correct guessing its an 0.30 jet size? The difference between petrol and kero burners becomes very apparent at times like this theres just no room to fit fingers near the jet in a kerosene burner does anyone know the jet sizes available for these roarer burners?

Back to the drawing board 111b jet made things worse maybe its down to the poor old misshapen burner with original jet she ran blue on high flame im seeing 3 alternative jets online for these ruling out the alcohol one what sizes are the other 2 options?

    @Garth

If your 111B jet is factory it should be .37mm part no. 2510, the 2509 jets that I have are .32mm.

I do have one M marked jet that is .30mm

Just found this online and my 8r has always run ok things a little better but suspect the old distorted burner may be the problem or just faulty manufacture the stoves always been like this 8r jet was visibly smaller than 111b jet.

    Hi,
I have a Primus 22 that I got years ago at an estate sale and am thinking of selling. I can't find a place to post it but may try eBay or CL. Do you know anyone who might have interest?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

@Jeff1234 I've never seen or heard of a Primus 22. Your best bet would be to take some photos and put it up for sale on eBay. I'm sure there will be plenty of interest.

This is not the forum to try and sell a stove, but . . . . .
