111B Flame Burns To One Side

Hi All,

I’m nursing a well-loved Optimus 111B back to health. One curious problem: the flame burns normally at low to medium output, but at high output, it only wants to burn to one side of the burner, the side opposite the “priming hole.” The flame on the right side just cuts out, and only burns on the left. Even after getting good and hot. I have pricked the jet. Has anyone else experienced this?

Does the flame-ring fits equal around the burner head?
No small holes on the tubing up to and around the burner head!
A dunk test with a cold stove i hot water might reveal tiny holes?

 

Thanks Harder, I will inspect. This occurs with or without the cleaning needle installed.

1. Check that the nipple (jet) is snug tight.

2. Clean the top of the nipple and, if it’s out of shape, make it smooth by rubbing it on a fine sharpening stone.

3. Check that there is not a fine crack somewhere in your burner (most likely in the burner tubes).

One of my B's had carbon in it, still not the best at a lower burn. One of my 111's was dropped on the burner, took quite awhile to realize the top was not lined up with the tubes. Plus, the previous owner used the incorrect tool on the jet, never seen one so burgered up before. Good luck sorting it out.

And, after all of that ....
Look at the burner relationship to the tank and see if it is straight.

I do think it is a jet issue, clean the hole and the top surface.
