I figure I should start my quest for the next stove while I am wait for penetrating oil to free up my 8R so I'm asking for your suggestions. What should I get? What is obtainable? What is not expensive? Which stove have available parts? I already have many colemans! I like the old stuff!
Ha, you are asking us for an opinion on 1 stove .. the next stove. Good luck with that. The opinions here can fill a book. I would say spend some quality time reading information about a few stoves you are likely to buy. That way, when you have one, you will already know what you may have to deal with. The catalogs are good, as are the advertising and instructions. There are usually added comments in the gallery also. When you find a stove of interest ... search for anything written by @kerophile. that will take you to threads and posts that mere mortals, like me, find difficult to find. He is a master of the sleuthing. Ken in NC
Like @snwcmpr, said. What interests you also, don't necessarily go off of others opinions. 00, 210, 45, 96 for more available parts. Study up on them as to what makes them complete. Using the Stove Reference Gallery (SRG). I had 30 stoves in a couple three years, now, over 100. Way over. Duane
@Detroithiker , get what you want. I guess. I went for the four cannister stoves, 520, 530, M1942, and M1950, after that, it was piecemeal. msr firefly would be my choice - not too scarce in America and if the original pump is knackered or missing then the newest version is 100% compatible and they are nice and loud

I should mention I have restored a 123 and enjoyed it a lot Mostly looking for the classic stuff and it does not need to be light, I own backpacking stoves already
Research some of the repairs made to roarer, lipstick, and silent burners. Then you will know better what to look for and which models interest you. I found that I like the ones that go in a box for travel. 00, 210, 121, 96, 20, 21, etc.
A rusty 8/8R, 111 make easy projects, come out good. Hitting all the angles and edges to clean out old paint, then paint remover can be a small hassle. Past projects in the corner, ignore the 96's. Duane
If you like the brass domestics they are available and not so expensive. And fun to use on a daily basis. Primus 5, Optimus 5, 45, etc. I have a nice Aida 100 as well.
Get into the brass classics. I say the hikers and campers, not the fixed-leg domestics. In the one-pinters: Optimus 00, Primus 210, Radius 21, Hipolito 0 (a good one to find); in the 1 3/4 pinters: Optimus 45/48; Svea 105/106, Aida 100-- so many more. This leaves out all the 96s. Many riches await.
