Did you leak test this after you had it all together? If not, I suggest spraying some soapy water on each connection and on and around the fill cap, place the fuel tank under hot running water with your finger over the jet and look for bubbles. Even though the fuel tank passed when Keith tested it, I'm assuming that he tested just the tank. If the condition of the fuel cap gasket is questionable and happens to take the same cap as the Svea 123, I found that a Coleman single-piece fuel cap gasket is a great fit. Lastly, if no leaks detected above, now that the fuel tank is hot and should have some pressure, with your finger still over the jet, put the jet under water and remove your finger to see how well air is coming out. If air comes out fine at this point, I would suspect the wick or jet since air will flow out easier than liquid.
I must be the lucky one where the 8 r is concerned mines primary coffee maker now im putting close to 2 litres of fuel in it a week nrmally not refilling till it runs out tonight its had a 12 inch frypan on it over half an hour now and no prv eruptions im doing everything wrong by it and its given no trouble only issue if its run really hard spindle packing will leak and needs re tightening
Post frypan hasn't worried it they need work have you got yours properly hot yet? Or just lighting and looking they seem to make an effort when they are actually doing something.
Suspect the fuel im using isnt the best but due to my scottish heritage I totally refuse to pay triple the price for the word coleman on the fuel bottle aame with the kero things was given some mineral turpentine had no use for it but it was free turns out an optimus 22 can't really tell the difference so it happily digested the stuff I admit it! Tried it in 8r and it did attempt to run on it but badly
Optimus 22 is designed to use kerosene, paraffin. The Optimus 8R is designed to use white gas, naphtha. Different fuels and different stoves entirely. What did you mean?
Run white spirit mainly in my 8r but only gas stove I have is a 2222 and thats a bit expensive to run mainly for looking at kero the cheapest fuel here apart from meths so use kero devices as first choice
Looks like white spirit is more similar to kerosene: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_spirit Very similar flash point and density. I bet your 8R does indeed have trouble with it. White spirit is basically petrol without additives reccomended in my zip and fine in my 111b trouble is its expensive here so only the slightly ecomomical 8 r gets used kero is way cheaper and easier to locate in bulk here for the others I do use
@Garth What brand of “white spirit” do you buy? In Australia, “white spirits” is a turpentine substitute and nowhere near Coleman fuel (or Shellite). But... reading Wikipedia on “White Spirit” it says that there are grades of white spirit and it refers to “white spirit” being sold in Australia as Shellite. Maybe it is local/country terminology. I’ll look at the tech sheets for Diggers Shellite and White Spirits. Cheers Tony
To avoid confusion, Coleman fuel is naphtha with some anti-rust additives. So if it is naphtha, your 8R will like it.
best to use the term white gas for coleman fuel or its substitutes. Even in NZ Ive seen white spirit which is suitable and white spirit which is not. Easy way to check which one you have is to put a teaspoonful in a saucer and try and light with a match.The correct one will burn
