A few months ago I refurbished a Coleman 500a. I've got lots of green stoves and lanterns so I decided to do something a little different. I liked the way it came out so much that when I got a 502 with a fount that needed repainted I decided to give the 500a a sibling. These models are no doubt my two favorite single burner stoves.
Beautiful work @cottage hill bill, they are both stunning! But my heart has fallen for your 500a, great combination of style and your chosen colours! Cheers Barrett
Well done! Looks great. I really like that you left the filler caps brass, and I'm sure that they run as well as they look.
@cottage hill bill , WOW!! Those twins look flat-out wonderful!! Love the color, and the great job you did on them both! Thanks for sharing, and very well done! Every Good Wish, Doc
I had the burner caps on my Coleman #1 looking great, but upon firing up, they were back to dark. Duane
Well every day I learn.... Whilst looking at your beautiful 500 again just because I love the contrast of colours, I had a moment..... My suitcase pump tube cap doesn't say 710 at all...... it says "oil" upside down....which is soooooooooo evident in your pic... Every day I learn... and worry about my stupidity. Wish someone had pointed my stupidity out and saved me some time lol Cheers Barrett
Tony, Paint is Rustoleum Burnished Amber, one of their primer/paint combos with a coat of Duplicolor engine enamel gloss clear on top for fuel resistance. The clear keeps the brass shiny too.
@presscall Thank you John, but the gloss clear coat is a necessity. Some or all of the Rustoleum paints do not fare well with coleman fuel. I learned that the hard way when I repainted a lantern 3 or 4 years ago. Fueled it up and slopped a little CF down the side. All the paint ran down the side with the CF. I routinely cure my repaints in an oven so it wasn't a case of undried paint. Since then I have top coated everything with the Dupli-color. It is one of their engine paints and is supposed to be fuel and oil resistant and heat resistant to 500F. If a CF fount gets over 500F I plan to be in another time zone.
