Does anyone know if the new optimus polaris is any different than the Nova other than having an adaptor for butane canisters? I have seen people retrofit butane canisters to many liquid fuel stoves and was wondering if this could be an easy option to retrofit a nova for butane if you could get a spare connector from an Optimus Polaris. Any ideas?
Get in touch with Gary / Berniedawg and see if he is still making & selling his adapters (looks like he is). His contact info is in the comments for the video below (watch it on youtube). They work very well. It's a very easy fit as long as you use the proper fuel hose.
Thats cool to see, was hoping i could find something with a CEJN connector so i could easly switch between fuels. Im not sure how easy the connectors are to get though.
To do it that way - you need to get a Primus Omnifuel fuel hose and that BD adapter connector. Much easier to sell off the Nova and buy a Polaris... And, yes there are several other differences as well - which is the reason there are different silent burner hats for the Nova and the Polaris. Katadyn don't sell the Polaris fuel hose as a separate item, but Primus does sell the Omnifuel hose as a separate spare part.
Yeah true. I do love my nova, not a big fan of the Chinese made Optimus stoves. I think they fixed their quality control though, they had a recall with leaking connectors not long after production shifted. I've recently got into more and more ultralight gear, and don't use my classic stoves nearly as much, but I do still love my 8R and 199 to pieces. Having the extra bonus of isobutane mixes for the Nova would be awesome, but I only take my Nova on longer hikes or on colder weather where it pays off.
Hello. I realize that this is an older thread, but I’m hoping someone is still monitoring. So I’m brand new here, I just created an account because I can’t find what I’m looking for on the internet. I was wondering about the differences between the Optimus Nova & the Optimus Polaris, it would be nice to see a real life comparison. To me it looks like the Polaris might be considered superior since it can burn canister fuel, the other advantage according to the website states a quicker 1 liter boil time (3.4 compared to 3.5 minutes). The fuel consumption/run time of the Polaris compared to the Nova seems quite high though when your only gaining a tenth of a minute in boil time. I don’t need a light stove for this upcoming adventure, I’ll have a boat to haul my gear this time. But if I’m going to purchase a stove I would think fuel efficiency would be one of the top qualities to look for so one wouldn’t have to carry a bunch of spare fuel On future endeavors, correct? I’m new to liquid fuel stoves, I’ve just been reading about them & their abilities to simmer and cook actual food seems like a neat idea to me. If I were to only turn the stove up 1/2-3/4 or something would my boil times & fuel consumption be similar to the nova? Thank you!!
