Greetings, Gentlemen, and Ladies, Well, it may have finally happened. It's quite possible that my latest stove buy, from the UK, has run afoul of the Royal Post, and may never be shipped my way!!! I don't know if the seller can retrieve his package, or if it will be destroyed, arbitrarily. Here's what I got from the bay of evil today, as a "heads-up" note: ✓ Shipping info received ✓ In transit Delivered Last scanned date Wednesday, Oct 31, 2018 Package location Lichfield , Staffordshire Shipping status In transit Shipping carrier Multiple carriers Global tracking UPAAC000000014878194 Delivery message Undeliverable - Item restricted at Global Shipping Center Were I to take this at face value, I might ascertain that this means my stove and it's neat little oven, truly is "undeliverable", as the last line of the message reads. What do you think, Friends, and Fellow Stovies? Does this mean that "it ain't gonna show up", or is there still hope for this to be shipped to me from the UK? And, if is ISN'T going to be shipped, will the seller be given a chance to retrieve his package, or are we both screwed?!!? Thanks for your thoughts on this, All. If this goes South on me, it will be my first UK-sold stove that did not make it out of the system!!! That would be a huge bummer!!!! Take care, and God Bless! Worried, but Still Hopeful, Doc
You will not get it But you will get a full refund from eBay including shipping The seller loses out He is at fault he may be able to recover the item but will have to pay Thems the rules
@Rickybob , and All, I fear you are right. I know that eBay will take care of me, eventually. But, I am bummed about the seller losing out on everything!! I've asked him to please see if he can retrieve the package, so he doesn't come up empty. Haven't heard back from him, so far. I have no idea how he listed the package, but had hoped he would call it, "used camping gear", or "parts for repair", and not "stove". But, I had to ask if he would ship to the US, and he added that to his listing. I'm going to have to think about this, for a while, but I was considering seeing if he and I can split the total, so he would not come up completely empty. Am I being an idiot, or should I just let things happen as they may? In any case, I think, unless this package IS eventually delivered to me, that my days of buying from the UK are over, at least for stoves. Sigh..... I'll keep you all posted. Take care, and God Bless! Waiting patiently for more info.... Doc
he is at fault because he attempted to ship an item that was found to contravene the regulations finally I am FREE!! this website has been a tough habit to break at last I can quit a strange feeling it is to e-v-a-p-o-r-a-t-e-! into the ether bye-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-!
Where 2 innocent parties to a failed transaction such as this exist, there has to be a means to assign the risk of loss. Here, the seller has control over the mode of shipping. There is more than one shipper, and shippers have rules. So he bears the risk of loss because of shipping failure. In that sense it's "fault"; moral failing doesn't enter into it.
@Doc Mark When I read your post I took a deep breath and looked at my eBay information. I was most relieved to see this: I had advised the seller to ensure the tank was rinsed and clean, the filler cap off, and goods marked “Antique Camping Equipment”. I offered extra $$ to the seller for careful cleaning, but the seller did not want extra. Fingers crossed it gets here. Tony
Hi, Gents and Ladies, @Ed Winskill , Ed, thanks for your opinion on this, as you echo, basically, what I believe. "Fault" does seem a poor choice of words. As to the seller not doing specific things to help this package be delivered, I strongly feel that part of that "blame" should be mine, as I did not ASK him to do those things that might have prevented this from happening. Hence, my thought about sharing in the loss of the item. As the shipping cost him nothing, I think if we split the cost of his item, I would feel better, "morally", and in my heart. I've still not heard back from him, so we've not been able to discuss this further. I know that "legally" I have the "right" to get a refund in full, but "morally", that does not seem quite right to me. But, as Ken advises, I'll wait to see how it all turns out. If worse comes to worst, I'll tender my offer of paying half of his items selling price. As the stove and oven were supposedly a "barn find", that may well give the seller back more than he paid originally for these things. In any case, I'm willing to accept some of the "blame" for not having asked him to list the items in a certain manner. Just my two cents..... for what they are worth. Thanks, again, Ed, and All, and I'll keep you posted as to how this turns out. Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
Sorry to hear of that @Doc Mark and true to form you’re committed to a noble course of action. Sadly and inexplicably, Rickybob elected to make his farewell to CCS in this thread. Sorry to hear of that also. John
Good Evening, @presscall , John, I'm saddened that Rickybob would quit CCS over this situation! I had hoped it was talking about quitting eBay, but not CCS. If he IS gone, then he must have been considering doing this for a while, as I simply cannot fathom how this thread could have been the catalyst of his leaving. Strange turn of events, though..... Thanks for letting us all know that's what he did. Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
I am with @Rickybob There is no one else to blame but the seller. Even if ignorant, the seller is the one that takes the risk of the sale. It would then be his responsibility to cover himself. Maybe fault is a harsh word, responsibility may be less harsh, and more politically, legally, correct. Whatever, He will be missed, He does liven up the topics.
Global Warming Censorship Conspiracy. Or somesuch. I thought he left the first week of August. Something about a nabob shoving it where the sun doesn't shine and "Toodles". ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
