Hi Guys I have (like many others i guess) a burnerbowl that is rusty on the inner side on one of my Coleman 502´s which I want to tidy up a bit. I got into it because i just bought a 533 which also was rusty in the burner assembly - easy detachable, so I cleaned it - gave it some rust remover and then painted it with some heat resistant paint - chucked it in the oven for an hour as described. The result is not too bad. Now to the real issue, which is the bowl on the 502. I don´t really want to take it all apart - possibly a pita to do. So what I think is that I´ll give a good clean, paint it and then turn it on for an hour or so to harden op the paint. Have any of you guys done it like that, and did it work out ok? Mads
Remove as much as you can. I have disasembled a few with no problems. The burner bowl is the most difficult to remove if badly rusted, but it should eventually unscrew. Penetrating solutions will help.
Check on the coleman Collector's Forum and do a search on 502 disassembly. The small oil filter wrench is a must have tool for taking apart 502s. Lots of penetrating oil and patience. I've had good luck with VHT brand paint, the 2000 degree version, cured according to directions on 502s.
