Does anyone know the original color of the Monitor Cabinet stove tin? Mine came to me painted in gold. David L
Photo please. I don't know the model from the name. I have a 1 3/4 pint Monitor with a gold-painted windscreen thing, like a very large Primus 71 or Optimus 80. I have never know what the thing is called.
Just looked at the Monitors in the gallery and mine must be a 1 1/2 pint Cabinet. Unfired; only a couple of entries in the gallery. I should have looked more carefully before. From mine and those shown I think the windscreen/enclosure must be original in gold paint.
Thank you. The reason that I doubted that this was a real factory paint job was that the paint does not seem to be durable. Possibly I was expecting 1950's quality from an earlier time period. David L
Hi @David L I think Monitor produce stoves in brass, gold paint and nickel finishes. I believe a quick squirt of gold paint was an economy measure as it was probably cheaper than polishing the brass and lacquering it. The cabinet was probably done for the same reason, although all the ones I've ever seen have been plain aluminium. It is interesting that the catalogue page reproduced above refers to the fact that it is fitted with an 'auto-seal', presumably similar if not identical to that fitted to their 'Regal' stove. The 'auto-seal' fitted to my 'Regal' was discussed here but in use, I found it troublesome. I eventually removed it from the base of the burner and popped it inside the fount for safe keeping. Someone else can fiddle with that one day! Baz
