Just bought a Meva #1 at antique store for $80.00. No idea if that's a good price. Looking for age of stove. #357 stamped on bottom of tank. Is this a one liter stove? After some quick Fettling it lit up. But notice bubbles at lip of filler cap. Losing pressure through solder crack? Filler cap is bigger than I've seen so is there a bigger cap seal or should I make from HDPE material.
@Punch, HDPE could be a bit stiff for a cap gasket, IMO. I've had great success with a cork/rubber blend, sold in 1/16" sheets. NAPA Canada has it, their part # is FPG 3018, and I see you've got several NAPA locations by you in Calgary. https://www.napacanada.com/en/p/FPG3018 This is a LOT easier to work with, a sharp hobby knife is all you need, I've used punches here to make washers and cap gaskets, works a treat, and holds up very well! @Punch , I suspect a toothpick and some two part epoxy will cure that easily, no need for soldering on that you! Murph
It is quite common to find a year and month stamp in bottom of 50's-80's Meva lanterns so I should guess your stove was made in March 1957.
1st Quarter - Jan, Feb, Mar 2nd Quarter - Apr, May, Jun 3rd Quarter - Jul, Aug, Sept 4th Quarter - Oct, Nov, Dec I am not saying it is 3rd quarter, only defining what 3Q means.
Excellent help. Any ideas how to fix a bend on rim of burner. No effect on burn but I'd like to correct it. Also the higher the pressure, the more odd shape the flame pattern. As seen in pic.
The odd shape of the flame is too much pressure. Back off on the flame. To straighten the burner, I would make certain it is annealed, by heating it up with a torch and letting it cool. Then heat up the area with a torch again and tap with a brass rounded hammer to a round shape. I would tap it on something soft, like a piece of wood. If you are not handy that way, then just do it slowly with care. Is that explained enough?
Thanks all. That's exactly what happens. When you bleed off pressure, flame pattern returns to a more standard appearance. Although my silent burner Hipo won't change pattern no matter how much you pump it up. Anyway I've only had this Meva one day. What about tapping out bend just after turning stove off?
I have successfully adjusted that edge with a flat nose plier when the burner runs quite hot on a couple of stoves. Rule #1 is always to avoid excessive force.

I use the outer rounded part of the head on a ”polygrip” plier without teeths on the grips. The rounded form of the head do not make any marks but press the brass back to its normal shape. The plier without teeths can also be used to help adjusting the shape without to much marks. I also us it to adjust the shape of flame rings. Michael
The generic name "polygrip" in Sweden usually is used on far more sophisticated tools than the original "Polygrip pliers" - norwegians use to say the original one has a very big mouth but isn't useful at all.(they use a local name not very appropriate to spread)
What I meant by ”polygrip” is this type of tool. It is the common name in Sweden of this type of tool. I did not find any good English name for it when I wrote my messege. Mine is of another manufacturer and this one is a newer and more advanced type from Knipex. There where a recent topic about this tool at CPL. Michael
Any Meva gurus out there? I notice that my Meva dd:4 57 has a different filler/ air bleed screw. Were they changed in that time period? My assembly looks like it's screwed into the tank and not soldered. I was dealing with some underburn issues here. Can you tell?
The closest to that tool that I know is the Channellock Channellock is a brand, but that shape of tool has been called by that name, even when made by a different company. They do have smooth jaw version. https://www.channellock.com/product/415/
Yes, Channellock is of that type. I have a few of these but they are a little heavy. They are available at work too but the Knipex ones are more popular due to their slimmer size. Michael
