    Hello,
How do these roarer burners work? They have a strange looking trianular burner head. I thik lighting it for charity would be a good idea. Do you need a pint of meths to pre-heat that burner?

You know I love it and the triple burners. Way to go.

    Chuck

Mornin Chuck , .... sometimes these burners work TOO well .. as seen here with this one needing a rebraze .. youve seen the pics of Trevors BIG one in action :-) ;-) & can see the deeelightful colour that the burner head & heavy cast surround ring reach .. well i reckon that this one got too hot & melted its own brazed assembly
    PICT2235.jpg
The pocket/hole should be full of braze
, around the tubes/cast head intersection the brazing should be a nice smooth fillet... on this one its melted & run down the tubes
    PICT2230.jpg
The thicker cast section at the top of the tubes is cross drilled .. as per standard roarers , theyre just the same ... but on a larger scale
    PICT2233.jpg
The mass of metal above the crossdrilled area is used 'I think' as a heat sink ... getting the heat away from the lower temperature point melting braze . On the tube(left of pic)a 'hillock' of braze which should have been at the tube/cast intersection .
Easily visible here are the areas which should have a fillet of braze
    PICT2240.jpg
Ive partially cleaned the areas.. now trying to find my coded/aerospace welder friend to see what can be done ... im pretty confident that we can get it back to cherry & && beyond ..... will report as & when .
    For size comparison .. next to a Primus No.3 & a No.5 type silent .
    PICT2243.jpg
One use for these burners , with them mounted in a frame which supported a cast crucible , was for melting lead .Molten lead used for setting iron railings into stone ,gate hinges into stone gate pillars ... old tech 'expansion bolt' . or sealing between stones used for channeling water ... Roman tech .

Thanks for the link blackjack, I think I will be using their services - as long as it is not too expensive.
