Hi, I picked this up the other day - a nice Sigg Tourist SVEA 123 combo. The Sigg Tourist upper windshield is not like any other I've seen on this forum. There are no holes through to the base and the windshield vents are the same cut out pattern as the base. There is also a canister for the SVEA 123. The canister does not quite fit the stove though. It is about 2mm too short to closer properly. The SVEA 123 works well - a new cap washer and nipple were fitted and it gave a very good flame. Is this version of the Sigg Tourist an early one? If so, about what date would it have been manufactured? Thanks Trevor
That's a pretty early Svea 123. Sievert vintage, maybe. Likely Sigg is contemporary with Svea. I'm not an expert, but the answers are already in the gallery and old posts. Perhaps one of the old hands will know the way. Never seen that canister for the stove either. Nice catch.
Hi - yep the stove is a Sievert. The filler cap is clearly marked. I'm thinking that this may be from the 1960's. Edit - looking through this excellent post https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/svea-123-research-project-prelim.11516/page-2 I can see that the cap (type 1), keychain and key date this to 1960 or earlier. Possibly then the Sigg Tourist is of similar vintage - or it could have been purchased afterwards. Trevor
Unfortunately it came without a strap of any kind. The 'loops' for the strap are on both lid and the larger pot, and as can be seen in the photographs upper windshield/pot support is quite different from any other sigg tourist image I've seen.
Strap loops look normal. You can make yourself a leather strap with a buckle and a rivet. Is the can for the Svea marked "Sigg"? That is unusual. Good idea, it would keep leaking gas off the pots at the cost of a little extra weight. I thought it was some PO's idea. Maybe it was discontinued for costs. Pot gripper does not look out of the ordinary. Is it a smaller one, like it an Optimus 99 set?
I offered this guy a 2-place, wood-frame kayak for this, but haven't heard back. I'd hate for it to go outside classiccampstoves...anyone got $75? https://santafe.craigslist.org/spo/d/santa-fe-sigg-tourist-camp-stove/6821965307.html
Looks like a very good deal, if it includes the Svea 123U. Not for me as I already have a Sigg Tourist and 2 123s. Craigslist has a few good surprises, every now and then. I bought an Optimus 99, with flat oval fuel can for $40 last year. Some PO had also made a tailor-fitted corduroy sack for the 99 with velcro closure. It nestles nicely inside a USGI Mountain Cookset and keeps the rattle down.
Rattle is a peave people either nod vigorously in the affirmative to, or stare blankly at. I nod; I cannot stand not being able to hear birds and breezes because someone's kit is klinking!
