Hi All, I have lurked here for a few years and decided it was time to enlist. I'm mostly a lantern man but I do have over 4 dozen stoves, most being single burners and most from this hemisphere; not too many continental stoves floating around the Arizona mountains. I've had a half dozen 123r s but only have a couple of those left. I've a 111B and recently bought a 119 Ranger. It's the 199 that I am having difficulty sourcing parts for. The parts in question are pot stands and the moulded NRV in the cap used with the mini pump. As I understand it the moulded NRV is no longer produced? And that a brass pip holder can be used as a replacement? Is that correct or am I listening to Old Wife's Tales again? I have bought parts from the Fettlebox in the past, and need some washers now, but the pot stand and the moulded NRV/brass pip holder are not currently listed on the website. I sent 2 email inquiries last week but have not received a response as yet. So I thought I'd ask you folks in the know that see this stuff on a more frequent basis. Thanks in advance for any ideas as to where I should be looking for this stuff? Mike
Mike Last time I looked The Fettle Box had the brass pip cup (at least in their kits). I’ve some old used “in fair to reasonable condition” pot rests for the 111. For new ones, try The Base Camp (UK) or fogas.se. Tony @Troutman @Spiritburner
Thanks so much Tony, I just looked at Fettlebox again and their NRVKIT shows a pip holder but that is what I emailed them about. They don't show a size and my question to them was 'will it fit the cap that is used with the mini pump'. I would welcome a used pot stand but it is for the 199 not the 111. The ones that came with my stove look more like they came off a stove similar to 8 or 8r. I'm not familiar with those stoves but they're about that size. I have seen the 'X' pot stand configuration which would also work and have been tempted to try making a set of those myself. Does any one have a sharp tracing of those I could buy? Mike
Hi, I believe that Base Camp has these, which are the one-piece moulded NRVs used in the built-in air pumps used in later Op.111s and classic brass stoves. Check before ordering if your needs are different. 2252 Rubber cone for pump valve, all paraffin lamps & stoves, £ 2.95 2252V Viton cone for pump valve, all petrol lamps & stoves, £ 3.95 Optimus Spares Price List Best Regards, Kerophile.
Thanks kerophile, I will check with them to be sure. I had checked that list of parts after Tony mentioned them but I sure missed it.
@Troutman There is an ebay seller from south korea that sells cross-style pot supports that look like they would fit the optimus 199. Look here: small bowl holder for optimus, phoebus625 | eBay Regards Simon
Thanks Simon, those look exactly like what I'm needing. Kerophile, I sent off an email to Base Camp to be sure the 'Viton cone' will fit the 199. This is starting to look like a pretty good day. Thanks again gentlemen! Mike
Depends how frustrated you get fettling I suppose.... If you have one handy I can appreciate it may be tempting.
LOL! Sorry about the ambiguity. Yes it's sheet metal and I thought it a bit 'extreme' as well but all I have in smaller gauges is galvanized which is a definite NO-NO. I will try ACE hardware to see what they have but I don't recall them stocking light sheet metal in the past - it's a small town.
16 ga steel, 0.06", would be fine, I think. Strong enough. You can find custom cut pieces of titanium online at several places.
My dad owned a Winchester Model 12 in 16 gauge that I hunted a lot with as a kid. One of my own boys owns it now. So I've always had a fondness for 16 gauge...seems to be making something of a comeback.
Well, I decided against the plain mild 16ga. steel I had in house and picked up a remnant of 20ga. Stainless 302 BR. I only had mediocre tools to work with so they came out a bit unrefined in my mind but they are very functional. Thank you folks for all your input.
