Hi ! I recently acquired a Retec Alcohol Stove to keep on hand when the power goes out in my area. My question is where do you fill it ? From the side hole or from the top ? Does anyone know how much alcohol it takes to fill ? How long does a stove like this go once it is filled ? How do you adjust the flame ??? I tried to find instructions on the web and was unable. I would rather hear some advice from those who know about this stove instead of just experimenting with it and possibly damaging it. Thanks for any words of wisdom, Joe
Hello ! I bought one a few days ago on Ebay... Here's the instructions: "Slowly and carefully pour the fuel into the top burner hole. (any 95% ethel alcohol such as "solox" or Wood alcohol. Do not use rubbing alcohol). Eight ounces of fuel should be enough for an average filling. Ten ounces will saturate the stove. (95% alcohol may be found as a fuel or solvent at any hardware, paint, marine supply or drug store.)" By the way, you adjust the flame with the sliding rubber plug (on the side). Nice stove. Works good and is safe. Catogan (too lazy to log in before answering )[/u]
Thanks for the information posted catogan. I can wait for a warm day to go outside and fill and try out my new Retec Alcohol Stove. Thanks again, Joe
Hello Joe ! It is an alcohol stove, non explosive and without toxic emanations. I mean, you can try it inside with the usual cares ( non flammables items around, good ventilation, ...). Enjoy !
Have a pan of water handy in case things get dicey. The sweet thing about alcohol is a fire can be extinguished with water. That's why alcohol stoves were (are) popular on boats. I like to light my alcohol stoves on the kitchen stove with the exhaust fan going. It help evacuate the fumes. (Crack open the KItchen window a mite, that really helps !) Gerry
