I bought service kits from fettle box for my 111's The B went fine. all ready for a clean up and pos repaint the case. The 111T has surprised me. I did not register that it's a late version. The case is embossed with Optimus international. The outer burner (the bit with all the holes in it! lol) has two tabs on it and locks into place. The handle on the control knob should of made me realise as it's one with a tool built in the end (like the hunters?). So went to change the pump leather to find of course that its an o ring! Now I could just replace that but call me old fashioned but I prefer a leather cup. So can I convert it? the o ring assy is held in place with one of those push on washers (sorry can't think of the name). Perhaps I am just being to old fashioned lol. Looks like I need another 111T only an older version! Alan
I used to have a 111T and that 'O' ring pump seal. I suppose that it could have shrunk or hardened somewhat but it was never as effective as a leather cup. I wonder if they were ever anywhere near as good as a cup seal when new? I just got a pump rod assembly for the previous model & a new cup. Problem solved.
+1 to what they said. The kit by @kerry460 is the cat's meow to the fix of o-ring to leather. Ken in NC
I converted my 111T from the o-ring to a leather pump cup using Kerry's conversation setup and I can state Kerry's setup works great. Cheers, Norman
An old thread....but are the Kerry conversion kits still available? This question posed because Kerophile has hinted this is the right way, that, or I'm reading that into a comment he made elsewhere
Well I'm curious what the conversion entails, maybe an image already here on the forum somewhere? Kerry, if/when you ever do please sign me up for two of them. I've got plenty of stoves and am not in a hurry, not at all, but if pre-payment is good with you it is good with me.
Hi, @MedicineMan4040 . the change-over from an O-ring based pump to one using a leather bucket is quite simple once you have the new cleverly designed/manufactured piston part. The O-ring and its carrier is removed and the new leather based piston substituted. The remainder of the pump-parts remain as before. This old post describes how the most common type of air pump, using a leather pump bucket, works. Typical pump assembly You should also be aware that collecting and operating old stoves and lamps is a select and minority interest so there is only a limited market for spare parts and replacement items. We depend on a small number of dedicated individuals and mom and pop shops worldwide to support our hobby. If there was money to be made in stove/lamp spares there might be more commercial suppliers! We have to explain to new hobbyists this fact of life and urge them to be patient is their search for information and parts Trust this helps. Best Regards, Kerophile
Kero, what I've gathered---correct me if wrong---is that I might have to purchase a whole stove to get a part desired.
You are wrong. You have many options short of finding a donor stove. Swap between your 3x No. 111 stoves. Wait until you receive the S Korean "plug" you ordered. Wait until Kerry can make you a piston part. Advertise on CCS Members services to see of anyone else can help Ask Base_Camp if they have one. Just use the O ring pump. They are mot that bad. Best Regards, Kerophile
