I was thinking of sawing off the handle of one of them. Are the Coleman Peak One pans/case made of steel as well or are they aluminum?

Not a bad deal, Harder, but the ad says they're Aluminum.
The issue on this thread was the OP was an alumiphobe. Or at least she preferred stainless steel.

A Finnish surplus outfitter in Helsinki has the Dutch mess tins in stainless in stock, again.
$18.99 USD plus $9.99 flat rate shipping to USA.

Varusteleka is a favorite seller of mine. Look around if you decide to buy from them. They have some interesting gear.
Their strange brand of humour may or may not be your cup of tea, but they run a tight ship, and have always delivered. No affiliations etc.

I'm one of their ''Regular Pigs''. I get stuff from them often. Some of their prices are better than Stateside surplus vendors. Some of the gear they have is more rare over here, too.
They do seem to be making an effort to break into the American market. $9.99 flat rate DHL shipping to the USA is downright friendly. By contrast Green-Store.CH, a Swiss surplus outlet will charge $75 air freight for a 3 Frank mess tin to the USA. Not so friendly. Maybe it's the language problem. I have no German. And maybe they're still mad at Americans for accidently bombing their border cities in WWII. IDK. The United States did no favors for Finland in that conflict.
As for their humor, I think they're funny. I get it. My parents were news reporters, I get 'Black Humor.'
Stalin once said: "Black Humor is like food... Not everyone gets it."
