Hello all, I recently acquired an Optimus 22B. I noticed that one of the flame control knobs (left one) that attaches to the spindle doesn't match up to the spindle through the hole in the case. I'm trying to describe this the best I can. When I insert the flame control dial through the hole in the case, it does not meet the spindle. It looks to be a couple centimeters off. I removed the stove and windscreen from the case and put everything back together thinking there could be something causing the stove to not match up with the case but it didn't help. I guess the next step would be to disassemble the entire stove into it's smallest parts and put it back together to see if that corrects the angle issue, but I don't really want to do that as the stove functions fine otherwise. This is the first time I've had this issue on any of my stoves. Has anyone else run into this issue? I appreciate any and all assistance! Thanks, Troy
Not necessary. A photo would save guesswork, but likely to be correctable by undoing the burner inlet nut attaching the burner to its inlet pipe, re-aligning the burner and re-clamping.
@presscall ok, I'm working on the 22B and I tried your suggestion. Undid the inlet nut and tried realigning and reclamping. I don't think it made much difference at all because when I tighten the nut it straightens the burner pipe back to where it was before. Here are some pictures.
@Tezellman Ok. How about misalignment (bend) of the tubing or the outlet boss on the fuel tank (which admittedly would be likely to throw both burner spindles out of alignment.
There does seem to be the slightest curve in the pipe. I did notice that. The right burner pipe also. Very slight.
@snwcmpr here it is with the door fully open. Right burner knob is perfect. Left burner knob angle is still slightly off.
I also removed the tank from the outlet boss and messed around with it for a bit to see if it was off. I tightened it down when both burners were even and it didn't correct the issue. It's almost like if the left burner pipe were a couple centimeters longer it would be perfect
Man I cant catch a break with this stove. Just discovered the right burner screw for the spirit cup is stripped ....
Fellas, I thank you for your help and advise. I can't see how I can fix the stripped out screw on the bottom of the burner and I'm flummoxed by the burner angle issue. I think I'm going to call it on this one. Troy
Troy You might be able to fix the thread with a fine file: carefully re-cut the grooves starting from the end where the nut starts, and carefully test the nut as you go. On the alignment of the burner, I would look at all the angles and connection from the door to the burners to see whether this stove hasn’t been whacked at some stage. Then I would be be carefully straightening anything out. Your left hand burner alignment looks a bit tight to the centre as well... Tony @Tezellman
Thanks Tony, I had to give it a break for the day as my frustration levels were reaching the peak. Thanks for the tip on using the file. I'll give that a go sometime in the coming days. As for the alignment of the burners, I have taken the stove completely apart at this point and reassembled twice, each time trying my darndest to correct the angles. Maybe I just don't know to look for here. The pipes always straighten themselves back to their original position when you tighten the nuts so there isn't much I can change the angle of the pipes. Like I said, I'm taking a break from it and will give it fresh perspective and attention at some point this week. Very frustrating spending hours trying to get the pipes angle changed by a few degrees to no avail... @Tony Press
Hello @Tezellman . I wonder if the pipe(s) under the burner regulator control could be bent a little near the joint(under the control valve) thus giving the burner a slight anti-clockwise twist. The lower pipes should each align straight with each of the fuel/vapor pipes above the regulator. If so, remove the burner, it's fuel jet and cleaning needle rack, carefully grip the burner at it's base with a vise or a suitable tool(for leverage support) and feed a screwdriver between the pipes and on top of the regulating valve area; heat the burner to very hot (especially where the bend is), then carefully rotate clockwise with the screwdriver you use just above the control valve area while using the burner base gripping tool(vise, or spanner, grips etc..) as a leverage point. It might take a few goes to get it right but done carefully with plenty of heat(to bend -not to melt the brazing) it should come right. Hope that helps, John
Hey John, Interesting idea. The thought had crossed my mind to heat up the inlet pipe running to the burner and try to bend it the slightest bit to correct the issue. But you have a different take on the same idea which is to rotate the pipes in the burner and give it a twist. I'll think on it and try to consider the best course of action. I appreciate the input. @threedots
iirc the control spindles on mine are pretty tight to the case, I'll have to take a look now you have me interested. Certainly not as misaligned as in this example.
I wondered if it fit better if you lift the door/tank off of the table. That would put the burners further back.
I tried it with the door partially lifted and it didn't help. Maybe the slightest bit but still not usable. @snwcmpr
