Optimus 111 International issue

Hello all, I recently acquired a 111 International in the mail. I started doing my normal checking of the gaskets and such and tried to remove the tank from the case to do some light cleaning of the burner. I could not get the screws to budge. Then I tried to remove the pump from the tank so I could check the NRV and pump. I could not get it to unscrew either. It feels like they may have been glued.

Anybody ever come across this?

I didn't want to force the issue and break one of the case-to-tank screws or damage the pump, but obviously I need to take the stove apart and ensure everything is in order before I try to fire it.

Any suggestions are appreciated as always!

 

Use a penetrating oil and let it sit a day or two let the oil do its thing

 

Alright I'll grab some tomorrow. Any specific brand that you have used and like?

I have messed around with a bunch of 111s and somehow never come across this problem.

@CW nevermind I already have a can of WD 40 right here so I'll go with that

 

I've used Kroil with good success there is also a thread here about making your own out or transmission fluid and acetone.

 

Wd40 might work but it's not a penetrating oil. Go slow and don't force anything

 

I've learned that lesson a time or two.. I'm definitely not going to force anything on this one

heat may help, few seconds with a small blowtorch (blue flame lighter is ok, and then apply the penetrating oil (50 50 kerosene and vegetable oil is my recipe.
Do not insist with the flame more then 10 seconds at a time, an then weight until touchable before a second run.

Update: I let the WD40 do its thing over night and the screws were fairly easily undone. The pump was a different story. I let the WD40 sit on it last night and most of today. A little while ago and set out to see if I could wiggle it back and forth and after doing that for 20 minutes or so (very gently,)I got it to break free and removed it without issue! Checked the NRV and it was fine. No need for a new pip. Took the burner apart for a cleaning and found the cleaning needle was completely bent into a U-shape. Other than that the stove appears as if it was maybe only fired once. Very excited to get this stove going once I obtain a cleaning needle.

 

So, how does that happen to the needle?

I really dont know, but I noticed before I even took the stove apart that the needle wasn't coming through. I was really expecting to find the needle was missing all together

 

It's interesting; I've read similar accounts here of bent needles.

 

Very nice. Have you tried to bring back the needle with a plier?

Thank you. I'm working on the needle now. I have it mostly straight but I can tell it's not going to be perfect.

 

Ok, I spent some time on the cleaning needle and it appears to be almost perfect. I reinstalled it and tested it through the jet and it seems to be functioning correctly. Puting everything back together now. If everything works out, you guys will have some kero flame shots shortly
