The importer is in Bellevue, WA about seven miles from me as the crow flies. I think the reason the Thermette is a "secret" is simply poor marketing. Gerry
I'm a kiwi land surveyor and we used to have a steel thermette in the back of our field vehicle (a Holden of course!) that we would fire up for a brew. We would burn the old totara pegs we found. The problem with these things is that they are a bit dirty and the steel ones rust - go for copper any time. They work well and probably are the fastest water boiler around. I now have an 8R for my field brews. There are a host of these thermettes now sold in NZ on the Trademe website - well made copper 10, 20 and 30 litre models - see NZ thermettes
MY. OH. MY. ! ! That 30L thermette is simply heart stopping gorgeous. I may need a shot (or several) of Glen Garioch after seeing that ! That puts the cork in it ! Monday morning I'm calling the importer and driving over to get a copper thermette. I'll put my Kelley Kettle on the trade blanket at my next rendezvous. Gerry
30 LITERS--AND A TAP i know people on the "equipped to survive" site that would trade in all their "rambo" knives and camo jackets for a water heater like that... AND.. for us in the northern hemisphere---totara pegs???
Totara= One of the Podicarpus family. Large (can be) NZ native tree prized for it's hard and durable timber, which is why we make survey pegs from it (?!?) Burns nicely, gives good coals for cooking, does tend to spit a bit. Supposedly a 'warm' tree, ie good to bivvy among the roots for earth warmth.
I have been thinking about one of the 1/2 gallon one for ages but I suspect the postage from the US would probably double the cost.
