This is an unused one, according to the listing: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=250100416363&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=015 And the venerable, also unused: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=280101254627&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=018 Pretty rare for unused ones to appear in the same week.
The 22 seems to be a little bent on the right-hand side - the fuel supply tube and the control spindle don't look straight...
David, I went back and looked at it again. Something is not right. The second picture from the top (looking straight down at the stove) shows the right hand burner out of position. And yet if you look at the same picture and imagined the burners sliding straight back into the case, the left seems out of position. Well one of you buy it and tell us whats wrong! Iain
Not me! I'd like a 22 but not so much that I'm going to pay the prices they're currently reaching. Can't see the point in 'em anyway - I wouldn't want to use the left-hand burner overmuch as they're unobtainable, so I might as well have two 111s for one-quarter of the price...
Yeah, I'm still waiting for my 22 to come from a garage sale for a couple bucks. I also think a couple 111's are a much better deal over the 22. Makes more sense to me, anyways. Still, that elusive and cheap 22 is out there, somewhere waiting for me. I just KNOW it.
Well, here in faraway exotic Mountlake Terrace, Spring has sprung and the garage sales have begun blossoming; to continue all Spring and Summer. I have resolved to stop at as many sales as I can to search out the elusive 22 or 22B. This year I have a method, a small memo book, a Thomas Guide and a pencil. It is my intent to note interesting sales, noting TG page #'s and co-ordinates in my memo book so I can go back and look later. I swear I can hear the 22's and Siggs beginning to stir. REI sold hundreds of 'em in the 70's and 80's, there have got to be some coming out of hibernation soon. I'm also driving roughly 450 miles into the untamed wilderness of Eastern Oregon to attend a primitive Rendezvous the third week of June. I'll be passing through dozens of little towns and hamlets on the way, so I hope to encouter at least a few opportunities to optimize my stove collection. Full reports and digital images as they become available. Gerry
Morning, Lads, HAPPY EASTER!! You are right to hold back from paying the super high prices which 22 and 22B stoves command these days!! Like Andy, and Gerry, and a few others of you, I KNOW they can be found for dirt cheap prices, because I bought BOTH of mine that way!!! One came from a swap meet, and the other from an outfitter who decided he didn't like using it anymore!! I paid $30 for one, and I believe only $20 for the other!!! So, the ARE out there, if you spend enough time looking for one, you will not only find it, but also lots and lots of other neat stoves, along the way!!! 8) 8) I know of two places where, if I had the wherewithal, and time, to visit, would yield more than one 22, or 22B, I'm certain!!! One day, I'll visit them both again, and see what's to be had. Keep the 22/22B faith, Brothers, and keep looking! You WILL find such stoves, and for much better prices than can be had on Ebay right now!! Good luck, take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc Mark
Hello All and you too Doc Ah Yes, the Optimuss 22B rarely seen in the wild but, often seen on e-bay gathering much attention like a drunken Prom Queen. Ya gotta burn that shoe leather or 'Coleman Rubber' but, they are out there waiting to be found. Until then we will satisfy our desires by obtaining other facsimiles and lanterns to minimize the large hole in our collections. Sad but, true. But I ask. Would a large FL6 fill the void? At least temporarily ??? Chuck
Doubt it, Chuck - the pans would fall off... Although the other day, I did see a Tilley patent for an R46-type double-mantle heater/radiator which you laid on it's back and then put pans on the front grille. Also, some people have been known to balance sweet mince pies atop a Tilley X246B to warm them through before eating - and very nice they were, too!
Seems to be the right perspective on these - clearly ridiculously overrated - 22's. I wouldn't mind relieving someone of his, but only if asked very politely.
Hello, Ahhh but, that bright light that radiates for 1/4 of a mile! You could cut down a coffee can and use it to suppost a pie above the Tilley? Just like the ones they make for a Coleman lantern. I suppose a heater like that would work as a warmer of sorts. Yep, the suitcase stove will have to do for now. Chuck
Hey, Jur, and All, Actually, I don't think that these stoves are over-rated, at all. They are absolutely wonderful for must any kind of cooking. We have used ours up in the Sierra, and extensively in Yosemite National Park, and found them to be simply outstanding! However, Rik had the right idea about using a Coleman suitcase until a 22, or 22B can be found for a much more reasonable price than what we're seeing on Eprey these days!! Great thought, Rik, and I couldn't agree more with that strategy! Keep waiting, and keep looking, Mates, and you WILL find a wonderful Optimus 22/22B for yourself, and for a MUCH less expensive price, too! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc Mark
Hello, Brother David, Couldn't agree more, Mate!! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc Mark
I agree with David. The 22 is a fantastic stove which is now on ePaytoomuch is getting very expensive. Unfortunately, I can not see the prices dropping - they will go still higher. Only chance of a reasonably priced 22 is via a non-ePrey route.
