Hi, i am new here, i`ve got a few lanterns and a couple of stoves as well, mostly common things but there is one i can`t find much info about. Thats my radius 19, a very small fine looking stove, its not the usual burner, but it looks more like the modern versions that is on for example primus omnifuel, a metal plate you could screw off to use the needle in the jet. I havent found anything else than whats in this cataluog section here, and thats not much, so i wondered if anyone could tell me how old it is, and maybe something more! Regards Johan
Hi Johan! Welcome to the CCS forum. Is your radius 19 different from the one shown in this catalogue page? If so, a photo or two would be highly appreciated.
Thanks for your reply! I doesnt look like the one in the cataluog section at all, here`s a picture of it. Its small, diameter ( bottom off tank)11,5 cm, height 17 cm, burner is 7 cm from tank. everypart is manufacted by radius as far as i can see. |imgRemoved|
I can see that some spend more time polishing their stoves more than i do, i use mine once in a while, but again i`ve only got qiut common ones, swedes and some norwegian stoves that appears on local fleamarkets sometimes, and no one new or unused! Yes it does look like the radius 20, the only diffrence i can see is the top of the burner! But still it says No 19 on mine! Interesting. The only information i`ve got about it, it that it should be from before ww2, when a relitve off mine bought it new. But i did get several stoves from him, so he could be wrong about that. It measures 15,5 cn heigh, like the radius 20 as well! So, how comes that this one is marked nr 19 and not no 20, anyone that knows the history of radius?
Thanks David! I was hoping there where someone who knew anything about my stove or the history around it, since its looking like a nr 20 and it says no 19 on it! Does anyone have a similar one somewhere. I havnt found anything so far, it cant be that i have a rare one?
Hi Johan. I think you have a nice stove, which is also rather rare. It looks as if it is a Radius 20, but it is clearly marked up as a Radius 19. Radius manufactured both a model 19 ( a 1.75 pint stove with a Radius special burner) and a Radius 20 ( a half-pint, Primus 96 clone) at the same time. I cannot understand why they would have used the 19 model number on the smaller stove. Maybe it was a prototype stove or the workers having a joke! Either way it is probably unique. You are Lucky! Best Regards, Kerophile.
A 'monday morning' mystery, perhaps. The Stove reference list on Base-Camp shows the Radius 19 to be a larger 2 pint stove. No matter what, it's a cutie ! Enjoy the Flame.
Hi Spudz, there are some errors in the Base Camp listing. The Radius 19 is a 1.1 litre capacity stove, see: http:// i.e. the same capacity as a Primus 100..near enough 1.75 pints. The Primus No. 5, generally described as a two-pint stove has a capacity of 1.3 litres. Best Regards, Kerophile
Thanks for that information. So, this is probably some marking who`s wrong or anything, and its probably a radius nr 20. I dont know if a dare to tell how i could find it out... I did get this stove for over 20 years ago, as i remeber i got it in the box, as i recall looking like the radius 21 box, wich i`ve got several of now. I was just something like 16 years that time, and didnt realize wich piece of swedish indusrial history this was, so the box is lost somewhere. Well, i`m going to hate myself for that a while! thanks for info
Hi! (I?m also new here) Although I can?t shed any more light on the fact that there is a Radius 19 the same size as Radius 20 I took these photos so you can see them side-by-side. When I found my Radius 19 it was just like this, only the tank and no burner or legs. They certainly seem rare anyway, I can?t recall seeing any other before Johan?s. (But I?m convinced there are more of them in the hands of collectors.) Best Regards Stefan J?rkeborn
So mine isn`t uniqe! There has been some production of a 19 looking like a 20 then. Is it absolutly identical besides the text? Thats my only rare stove so far anyway, nice! Thanks for all help and interest!
Very interesting! I too have a similar Radius anomoly. I have an old Radius 21 (but fitted with adjustable silent burner) in a 22 tin. Now according to all the paperwork I have the 22 was the same size as the normal sized 19 (much bigger than the 21) but with an adjustable silent burner. Ok - so you'd assume someone in the past had taken the burner off their 22 & stuck it on a 21 & stored it in the 22 tin & one day that's what finds it's way to me. Not so simple - the 22 tin I have is way too small for a standard 22! Was there a smaller 22 at one time? The same size as 21? Radius didn't mind if the 21 tank was used for this generation of smaller 22's? Discussion with expert contact in Sweden hasn't yielded any answers or supporting paperwork.
I`m not so much into stoves, but lately i got a primus 96, and its got another burner than my radius 19, and when i see pics of radius 20, it looks like its the same burner as i got on the primus 96. Its the burner with the jet integrated in the nut (?). While my radius 19 got a burner looking like the gasoline burners on optimus nr8, radius 46 and the primus 71. Just for making more confusion! See on the pics above!
Hello Johan, and friends, First, welcome to the forum. I am a bit late but was provided a link to this thread by my friend Kerophile about 2 weeks ago when I mentioned bidding on a Radius model 19 located in Sweden. I have recently received the Radius 19, which I believe is identical to yours and hope you can answer some questions I have about the one you have. Does your stove have a nipple threaded into the top of the vaporizing tube that looks like this? Is the burner head permanently silver brazed to the vaporizing tube like this one? This would help me understand if my model 19 is all stock or not, and thanks if you can help. Here is my model 19 happily burning some fuel. If anyone else has information to shed light on this stove I would love to hear about it. Regards, Doug
Hi Doug! Yes, mine is identical with yours, Yes i do have a nipple thats threaded into the burner, it could be replaced, and the burner head is silver soldered like yours! I got this one from my grandfather, who said i bought it in the late -20, but he could be wrong, somewhere at home in sweden there is a box for this one, i`m searching evertime i go there ( i was very young when i got it, so please forgive me for such mistake.... ) Anyway, now we know about 3 radius 20, stamped with 19, there must more off them! Regards Johan
Hi Johan, Well that is very good news to hear about and very interesting ! Thank you for writing back about the stove and I am very happy to find out the history of your stove because it relates in it's own special way to the history of the one I have. Yes, there are 3 of them, let's hope more will show up. I look forward to hearing more about the history of your Radius model 19. Thanks again, & All the Best, Doug
Hi Johan! Very nice stove!! Like it a lot!! Just wanted to say that I saw one Radius No 19 stove for sale on a flea market this summer but I didn't bought it since the seller wanted 60 Euro for it...... Just so you know that it's exist one more here in Sweden Best Regards from Sweden, Magnus
Sort of same topic. Do you recon if I brazed the head on me 96 riser I made with a nipple it would help any in the vaporizing kero department??? Thanks Barra
