Hi everyone. I've been lurking now for a while and picking up lots of useful information.

I have just acquired an "instant collection" of pressure stoves off eBay. Over a couple of weeks I bought a 2 pint Valor, an Optimus 00, a Primus 96 and a British Army stove. Not really sure why I've done it other than, being a hot rodder, I like old mechanical stuff. Pics of my current project below.

I have got the Valor and the Optimus going with help from this forum and parts and tools from Base Camp. The Valor is running like a champ right now and I've had the Opimus going earlier - a real quality bit of kit. I'm going to use the Army stove in my workshop to make coffee and tea.

The Army stove will go once I replace the cracked pump valve but the 96 will not go as it has the classic knackered vapourising tube - I tried to peen it without success. Does anyone here do a nipple conversion as I a relectant to spend ?20+ on a new tube - but I'd really like to see it work. It's a 1932 model and those are magic numbers for hot rodders ;-)

Thanks - just found the Valor is leaking paraffin from, perhaps, the tank base joint - as it looks to have been home soldered before.

However, I see from earlier threads that there might be many other sources too!!! I need to pressure test it and then maybe re- solder the tank base joint if that is really the source of the leak.

Just drain the tank, pump it up, and immerse in a bucket of water, you will see the leak no problem

    Howdy, Blackjack,

I, too, love those old cars, and used to have wonderful 1932 Model B Ford. I've posted a photo of it, here on CCS, sometime back. I'll have to dig it out, and repost of for you, as you will appreciate it more than most. Welcome to the CCS forums, and have fun with your Hot Rods!! Great photos, thanks!! Take care, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc Mark

It's a 27T on 21 T Truck rails with 32 front axle, Lincoln Zephyr brakes and a 57 Pontiac 347 engine with a three speed.

The trike is a kit made here in the UK using a Citroen engine and a spaceframe chassis

Here it is close up - it's an Avion.

I'm doing the National Rally of Wales in it again this year. Im going to take the Optimus 00 and, for the first time, can have fresh cuppa whenever I choose.

Nah no-ones ever done it before!!

One way must be plenty of others..
Was a nipple seat off another stove I ground to fit the top of the lip stick and silver soldered in after I ground the top off.
The nipple oriface is higher than in the original which will alter the fuel mix as well
Does work but maybe there are better ways around it.
You will need to fabricate a 0.009 thou nipple though.

    Welcome
    Have fun.
    Good luck

    Hey, Bruce,

That's a pretty cool retro-fit you did on that lipstick burner! Do you have any photos of it actually burning? You say it works, but how well? Worth doing, "just because", or better to leave well enough alone and stick with the original burner configuration? Interesting! Thanks, and God Bless!

Bit late to post a photo but will.

Put a alfoil shim around the burner bell to
1- stop the horrid thing sticking/welding to the lipstick
    2- raises it a tad.

Once you get the nipple pointing up properly
Bath softly in flames and carress the nipple gently into the position you would most enjoy it to be.
The rest they say is history!!
    Burns O.k.
Did it cos I had an argument with it and a hammer was involved.
closed off the nipple "retorically taping away "as one bloke put it.
    Couldn't find the hole.
    Hmm ...
    Opps shouldn't have said that!!

    Here you go then.
Couple of pumps after prime. Looking down the barrel so as to speak.
    2pumps.jpg
    Pumped up. Taken from underneath.
See a tinge of red on the top.
did burn better when I first converted it.
Takes a tad more time to prime up hot but not much.
Pumped up hard used be blue and feathery dancy.
But boil time suffered. But simmered awesome!!
Think I may have pricked nipple bit big.
Have to screw out and have a play with it.
Ohh sorry you can't do that can you!!!
    Underneath.jpg
Don't know maybe I should have put a lot more metal in there when I doned it.
Get the kero mora hotter so I could use a bigger jet horror face.
    Moreza few el morza heat!!

Hey hombras whatdu think a then-a???

    Hi blackjack

You can find out the leak by putting the stove under pressure and immersing it in in a sink/tub of water.

If your stove is leaking from a soldered joint, then the first thing you should try is a gentle lick of a blow-torch flame and the joint will most likely seal itself (empty fuel first!).

The Avion owes me around ?8K but they can be bought for as low as ?3K depending on the build quality.

It does 60mpg at 50mph and 50mpg at 60mph. I pay motobike tax of ?60 PA and insurance is about ?150 PA.

    I run the club for them so can source one if anybody really wants one. The latest one is here;

Just about to do a Guzzi and a BMW powered one.

Thanks for the tips on the vapourising tube fix.
