I warm the gasket with a small butane torch to soften. Sometimes that does not help a very old, and hard, gasket. As Doc said, you should look into the information about the SRV and replacing the pip in that when you replace the gasket. When no bubbles apear in the dunk test you are then ready to add fuel. Ken
I put a little bit of 91% isopropyl alcohol inside the cap let it sit. I was then able to scrap it out with a knife besides some edges. i'm guessing maybe due to the heat or the condition i got the stove in the gasket was basically melted into its position. I also heard of cut pieces of old bike inner tube working, do any of those claims hold up?
You need a fuel resistant gasket, so I doubt anyone here would ever recommend a piece of inner tube, even temporarily.
Bike inner tube would be foolish. You’ve just experienced what happens with gasoline in a badly maintained stove. Don’t test your luck the third time. Buy your gaskets from The Fettle Box, and you will know that they are made specifically for the stove and the fuel. Cheers Tony
@Joseph4 get ones in the states if you are in a hurry. Look for Viton made ones. Fettlebox will take like 15 days or more to arrive especially in this pandemic ask me how I know that.
Yeah. A new member coming here and advising against the best vendor we have for stove parts. Stove fettling, for most of us, is not about doing it quickly. It is about doing it well. Fettlbox is the best vendor with the best parts for our stoves. Hands down. I have been using their parts since I joined here. Ken
ill make sure to go on there and see what they have, plus i'm sure mike is a nice guy and all, but I would rather help support the site and people that have helped me every step of the way in restoring this stove to hopefully working order.
I have nothing against Fettlebox and I’ve ordered from them couple times Tilley or parts not readily available here in the states. Of course quality matters but we have a free market unless you’re allowed to. Stay safe my friend @snwcmpr
I have ordered parts from the fettlebox over a month ago and I still have not received my parts. I sent an email asking if the parts have shipped and no response from the fettlebox.
Postal services worldwide are messed up. Your parts could well be at your local post office and you should get them in another 6 months
Hiya Team, I have ordered parts too, from the Fettlebox, normally take 2 -3 weeks, which is cool. These are strange times, and the postal service will have delays. No problem; I am sure we are all grateful for what we have . Cheers Simon Foxxx
One week after I ordered from the Fettlebox, I ordered a tool from another vendor in England and I got that order in 2 weeks. I live in Alaska and I order from Amazon and Ebay all the time and all of my orders takes the same amount of time now as they did before the pandemic. The fettlebox won’t even answer my email to them.
@Spiritburner Fettlebox is a labor of love, and not the owner's primary source of income. Like everyone else, he has priorities. Cut him some slack. ....Arch
@dramey Send me a PM here or use my backup email fettlebox at gmail dot com. Your email might have been blocked for some reason. I'll make sure all is right for you.
Thank you Spiritburner. I received my order today. From the postmark, it took you 2 weeks to mail my order and three weeks for the post office to deliver my order. The parts appear to be high quality, just slow service.
@dramey When I order from the UK I expect to wait a month for delivery. Sometimes it’s as quick as two weeks, sometimes a bit longer. Recently I sent the same book to two different addresses (countries) in Europe. One arrived in 10 days; the other took 4 weeks from posting. If I order from the US I expect around 6 weeks... Tony
I got in trouble at work a couple of years ago for posting some documents from Wellington to Hamilton. They took 2 months to travel under 400km I could of hand delivered them faster on foot
Indeed you could. Much faster. When the first regular post was introduced between London and York; a similar distance, it was a 4 day service, because that's how long it took to walk.
