    @Staffan Rönn

    I note the packaging with this pump says “Optimus Incorporated” on the front and Suunto on the back.

    Do you know the relationship between Optimus and Suunto?

    Cheers

    Tony

    Hi Tony @Tony Press

    Absolutely - Optimus Inc. was the US subsidiary of Optimus, distributing the products on the US market. Optimus Inc. was sold (or at least activities transferred) to Suunto USA during 1986. Suunto continued to be distributor of Optimus until some time during year 2000 when Brunton took over the distribution.

    fascinating piece of history. i only knew a little of it.

    somewhere in the 80's when silva still made really great compasses. they lost their patent for the name silva, sold in the u.s., to johnson outdoors. silva/eu then sold in the states , compasses under the brunton name.

    i don't want to slander their eu/company . they still make great stuff and are available in canada again. not sure about the u.s. market yet.

    so this makes me curiious how silva/bruntun/suunto/svea are all inter related. i would love to see someone bring back the old svea 123 slant valve.
