I am having trouble understanding your lantern leak. Looks like it's coming from the base of one of the air tubes....that's really next to impossible unless there is a complete blockage up top not allowing fuel into the burner.....?????
@Blueflame No clue, unless there;s a small hole in the tank itself. Amazon already refunded my money. Thinking of contacting Coleman Warranty, tell them what happened, just to see what they say.
If there's a faulty process in their assembly line, they need to know about it before someone gets hurt.
Definitely. I'll tell them the full story, submit photos, answer any questions, etc. I won't try to get a free lantern out of the deal since we already got reimbursed. Not even sure I'd want one, after what happened.
I would recommend a 237 if your main fuel is kerosene, I own 2 of them and they are good working horses and if you want something smaller stick to a 249 and your set. both models are very reliable. Nice trip!
I agree 237 or 249 all day long. Nothing wrong with the 639 though, it is one of my go to lanterns, very bright, the sound is soothing and my grand children love the light up process. Your cabin looks like the best place on earth at the moment. Geoff Kiwi
I would recommend to post this issue at the CPL forum or CCF. Not making this a lantern topic, but aside from leaking with the knob in the off position, it is a bit odd that the 639C is leaking at the bottom of the air tube (which is only connected to the burner and to the bottom of the frame). Is the kerosene dripping from the valve assembly (between generator and valve assembly) onto the bottom plate of the frame and flowing towards the lower end of the air tube? Or from the tip of the generator? Or is the kerosene dripping from the burner down the air tube? By the way... if have 2 seventies 639's and a couple of old 237's and 249's. The 639 is fine lantern. All lanterns can be fiddly...

That's where it looks to be leaking at, without taking it apart. I don't want to dismantle it, without first contacting Coleman. The fuel was running across the bottom plate, and dripping by the knob, as shown.
Very nice photos! What a lovely area. Sorry about the failure of your lantern. I have one, and have never had an issue. I would not hesitate to replace it with another one or replace the faulty piece. Ivan
Thanks Ivan. Crap happens. I think I'm going to not buy another. Not because of what happened, but because I already have a few others. Really not necessary. I have more chances of using one of my stoves, than I do a lantern anywhos. I really don't use them much.
