    I was using my Svea 123 / Sigg Tourist this weekend.

    Flame start coming out of the valve stem. The little square part that you use the key on a chain to adjust the flame.

    I have been reading post here and have decided that I need new packing material for the valve (graphite I think).

    However I am not sure where to get a kit for a non "R" Svea 123.

    I checked out these links in this thread
    https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/svea-123-parts.31501/#post-319769

    But could not figure out what parts I needed.

    Could some one please help me find rebuild parts for my favorite stove.

    If I can get it going again maybe I will post pictures of my meager collection.

    It is real easy. I used to sell the graphite ribbon on eBay, a dollar's worth to fix the problem, 3 dollars to get to you. I don't anymore. The pictures show how easy it is to replace. The nut will compress the ribbon, and in fact that may be all you need. Tighten the nut a bit first, just before the spindle gets to hard to turn. Good luck.

    Why not try to find any company locally that sells packing material and see if they can help you out.

    You only need little graphite to fill into the packing box so you fill up the space inside.
    The graphite will form inside when you tighten the gland nut.

    Either you remove all old graphite and replace with new or you only add little to form a new additional packing on top if the old.

    A good packing company should have graphite in tape sized rolls that can be put on the valve shaft or you use any ”lose” graphite and press it down the space between the valve tube and shaft. You can use a shaped match to help forming the graphite before putting on the gland nut and tighten it.

    Have you tried to loosen then tighten the packing nut. Most times that is all that is required. Just tight enough that you can still turn the key.

    Welcome to ccs.

    I will try to loosen and tighten the nut. If I do decide to get new graphite tape is it necessary to remove the old tape? If so how do you do it?

    Thanks.

    My experience with this would say there is a much better chance of solving this with tightening the packing nut. I rarely need to replace the packing.
    Tighten a little bit more when it is hot, too.
    Try that first.

    Gokyo, Welcome to the site!
    Lots of helpful people and good experience with classic stoves. I am sure you will have your stove sorted in no time. And the Svea/Sigg combo is very highly regarded kit here.

    I picked up some graphite chord. I was able to get the collar in snug tight, but not 100% in. Thank you for the discussion.

    Hi @theGarinator . the collar or packing nut should not go all the way in. It is there to compress the packing graphite into the space, such that it prevents any leakage of pressurised fuel, yet still allows the control knob to turn from full on to off.
    As the packing graphite “beds-in” over time a further turn on the packing nut will compress the packing and close off any leakage.

    Best Regards,
    Kerophile.

    Many thanks! I wanted to hear advice here first before I fired my 123 up again. That little bit of leaking spooked me. Appreciate!

    @kerophile and forum,

    That graphite packing cord seems to have done the trick. No leaking. Appreciate!

    @kerophile and @snwcmpr

    Thanks, I live on the fourth floor of an apartment by a huge river and it was a howling when I fired it up.. I worried a lot of the carbon deposit's out of the burner with that cleaning pin.... what a bloody mitigated white gas stove this sweetie is, I think Colin Fletcher would say.

    Ahhhhh, Colin Fletcher!! He’s the Bloke that brought me to the SVEA 123. Until I read his comments about that lovely little stove, I was. Happily ignorant about anything that wasn’t a Coleman!!! My, how things have changed!! Well done on getting your’s up and running nicely!!

    @theGarinator

    It seems to be working well! :thumbup:

    After a couple of burns you might need to tighten the packing nut slightly (1/8 to 1/4 turn). Not too tight or the key is hard to turn

    It’s a good idea to take the key off the spindle while the stove is burning. It stops you getting the Svea tattoo burn into your fingers.

    Cheers

    Tony

    Yeah, that fluttering sound means dinner and always anticipated and appreciated after a hard slog. Love that stove...
