Awesome stove that came with a solar panel, battery-pack glued to the inside, charger and led-light. We haven't cooked on it yet, but use it as our balcony firepit. It's awesome.
It came from a guy whose wife was an aid at a Greece refugee camp. They bought 100 of these and took two back. This one came without the grillstand. I was actually on the lookout for use Motoral walkytalkies, but saw his ad for this stove. Had to buy it.
Great stove! There is a lot of places were this kind of stoves are made, there used to be a factory in South Africa (Lesotho)that unfortunately is out of business. I got this from a friend in the trying to get wind in the sails for a catalytic stove without need of a fan for marketing to UNHCR and in several countries in southern Africa. Philips HD4012 Fan-driven gasifier test Phillips is not making these stoves any more..... These stoves are really good at putting out a lot of heat! They work fine with almost any kind of combustible fuel (woood/coal based not liquiid!). I've run mine on pine cones and small sticks with good result, but if you are going to melt lead you need compact energy dense fuel. Best of luck with your stove! /Lars
The Facebook page suggest they are still in operation, in part in Lesotho: African Clean Energy And I believe the Philips stove was a research project that led to the ACE stoves and company. I love the fan because it reduces the smoke and soot dramatically. We use small sticks that are overely abundant in every street, park or bycicle lane with trees. It burns through those sticks at light speed though, constant feeding of the monster. I'm contemplating if I should build a balcony/garden stove with on one side mica glass with a fan purely for reactional use and a bit of warmth in the winter. The 'downside' of this ACE stove, in the way we use it, you hardly see the flames. We find just staring at the flames suprisingly relaxing after a a days work (I'm a teacher) and just a 20 minute small bonfire will take the stress away. What we love about the ACE stove is the reduced smoke output because of the fan, even at it's lowest setting. So also nice for the neighbours. On highest setting it creates an inferno and I can't deny I try to summon Lucifer in those fiery moments.
