Great post : made me register to this forum. I'm the proud and happy owner of a late 90s lugless Globie and I hiked the entire Vosges mountains with it. I converted it for C206 canisters in the early 2000s when I got short of GT106 canisters and I now have the same 3cm gap between the 2 pots. I plan to convert it again, for small Lindal B188 100g canisters, replacing the original stove with - likely - a Primus Microntrail (because the stove+canister could fit inside the pots). That will give me a 270g 2-in-1 stove+pots combo : lighter than most current 2-in-ones and much faster than the original stove. And : the original stove will retire, as a base camp or cabin stove.
This truly gladdens my heart. It would be so easy to go to a local branch of Camping for Fools and just buy some cheap, disposable stove or even one of the really good but ridiculously priced decent bits of kit and take the easy option. But this is cooking with soul. Stop me I'm getting all misty eyed. It's just fantastic that these things still have a working life and have not been consigned either to a skip, the back of the shed or a collection where they don't get used at all. Don't get me wrong, I love my Jetboil and have used it wherever I have travelled from North Africa to the Arctic Circle and it's great. But I can't say I get any joy from using it. I don't get it out and sit looking at it. What do you mean you don't sit and look at your stoves?
Morning all, I've been very buzzzzy this December over my annual leave period & have managed to get me me a fine collection of Globies together...... Think it stands at 6, with 4 un-pierced 90g cannisters and 3 fitted & counting...........and counting.......... Finally took pictures of the windshield for my globie that, by making extended legs, I modded for the 190g cannister (which is commonly available), but doing the mod this way, when nested, there is about a 30mm gap between the billies, which my windshield covers... I'll do a pic..... sometime soon I also added some rather delightful examples, one is a WW II Coleman pers cooker (it needs a lot of TLC but the little spares tube is there with it's contents, so I think it's worth the trouble......but I'll do the pictures on them Anyhow regards to all and I trust 2021 finds you all in good health Regards Warren

Morning Chris....... Sadly I can't tranfer the pics from my tablet to my PC, I get the blurg "do not recognise".............. One of the units I got was a Coleman 520 pocket stove similar to the picture And the other is a eve-ware spirit stove (with burner) similar to the picture, with the burner, as for the kettle, unfortunately I only have the kettle lid, but who knows what the future holds, I know what I'm looking for! The burner is the Godzilla of spirit burners... Best I can do for now "Boet" ................ The windshield thingie that I made, photos of my small cooker collection including my globie collectin will have to wait until I can figure my bloody tablet out... Perhaps, anyone else can give me some more background input? age, comments, anything else would be appreciated. THNKS
I never frequent car boot sales and such, but maybe I should. I could scour the land looking for even more stoves that I don't need. But what fun! If I'm not very much mistaken, that first stove is a prototype Jetboil, no?
Hi C Problem is, here in THIS tiddly piece of real-estate called SA, There is so little... It's either Mass-mart (Now part of Wall-mart) Chinese junk import or very old stuff from deceased clear-out's and so forth. To get the really good stuff, it's porn-shop crawling / boot-sale / auction / flea-market or nothing.. SIGH....
Aaa yes... Well getting a good stove in a pawn shop is just as satisfying as good cooking in a porn shop....
Well, as far as I know, the oldest advertising I've seen representing a globe-trotter is dated 1978. Ian, do you have any further information about why it's supposed to be earlier than this? I'm interested to learn more about this little fella... I own several of those and I'd like to get informations about early models: what do they look like and when they were released could be a great start in my quest! I've read in this post that 2-loops models are supposed to be the oldest examples... Bastien

Well, today I've received a camping-gaz advertising from 1974 with an additional leaflet from 1975, showing each product of their line, but no Globe-Trotter at all. So, I'm pretty sure they were first released in 1978. There is no point for them not showing this product on their advertisings in 1974-75, if it was aleady available. Plus, this stove had some success, so they would have shown it eveywhere. I don't want to doubt what you said, but I can't imagine a product dating from (let's say) mid-70's, shown anywhere at this time but appearing on an advertising in 1978. I checked every 106 canister that I have (approximately 15, counting empty and full ones), and the oldest are dated 1979. This was the first point. The second is that the "cartridge 75", the one working with the original Bleuet butane from the mid-50's, was still available. This is confirmed by some examples of this cartridge that I have, dating, if I remember correctly, from the beginning of the 80's.
@blabast88 When you get chance, please post images of the advertisement and leaflet in the relevant sections of the Reference Library.
