i have a question i have a coleman stove exponent 442 and a 533 ( that i bought some years ago), i want to ask if the feather it's made in china, because in the bottom of 533 stove there is written "made in usa wichita" , but it isn't written in the feather 442 that i bought used on ebay. thanks
@scalor I have had my 442 feather dated 8/92 since new. It has Made in U.S.A. printed on the cardboard box that it came in. Martin
i haven't the cardboard box it's used i think it's one on the last, 07 15 punched under the burner, i think 07=July 15= 2015
Hi Scalor, Thanks for posting. Could you make an attempt to post your 2015 date stamp please? Thanks. I have no suggestion re your "15" but I'm wondering if "07" might be your year? This interests me re timeline of the Coleman "Exponent" line of camping equipment. Right or wrong, re Exponent 550B, I "thought" that the 550B production run outlasted the others. That the 550B was the last 1 burner (1 piece tank under burner) back pack stove Coleman made (fwiw yes, 533 production continued but it is not a back pack stove). The problem with my (previous) thinking is this April 2008 No.442 Exponent. It is not mine I can not say w/100% certainty it is 08, it could be 06 but does look like 08 to me. And now your No.442 from 2015? I would say 2015 is big surprise but recently almost nothing surprises me. The last 550B I'm aware of is 2005 but I view that as ongoing research, later examples may well emerge. I can not yet say when Exponent 550B production ended. Something else that would not surprise me if Coleman outsourced making "parts", however if making of the 550B (& 442) was outsourced, that is a new one on me. Are you sure yours does not say "Made in USA" on the label? The 2008 example above is labeled "Made in USA". SO, If, later there was outsourcing of stove manufacturing, I will like to see link(s) to support it. To-date as far as I know, c2008 - c2012 +? stoves were assembled, boxed and shipped from plants in the US. Disclosure: to date I know nothing of Coleman lanterns, if there is a link that "Exponent" lanterns were outsourced, stoves may have been as well, I don't know. thx humbled omc tag @scalor and re 550Bs @orsoorso @BradB
I also have not seen a 550B newer than 2005. I have one from that year and it says made in USA on it.
I had also thought it, but in this stove, brown version of exponent feather 442 you can read 10 04 and in the cardboard box, in the center of the white rectangle there is written 2004 then the second pair of numbers must be (i suppose) the year, as you can see.
I have never seen raised lettering on a Coleman appliance...or is it an optical illusion? Photo inversion?????
@scalor, It's definitely July 2015, and what supports that besides the date stamp is the fact the burner support is bolted to the fount and is bare metal not painted as on the original dual fuel silver 442. I find the color more interesting than the date although that's important. Why didn't they just keep using Copper which would have been more appropriate. I think the box and instruction manual would be especially important in this case because it would help shed some light on this very mysterious find. This could be a special run but there is nothing to support that, and for whom? Only time will tell when more of these start popping up. I just pulled out my green Naptha 442 from 09 and the box is stamped model 442-702C. It and the stove are in English and French I assume for the Canadian market since I have a 508C that is also in French.
I just did a internet search and found a 442-700E Dual Fuel at www.coleman.eu under Nederlands and a 442-726J under a Japanese link and this one turned out to be painted black. At this point I think we need help from our European members to confirm whether or not the 700E version is still being made.

The "GB," "E," and "G" language bullets on the label suggest to me that it was for a non-US market. I searched for the code "442-458E" and found a Polish retailer link with a picture of one in the same dark silver color with "Made in USA" visible even though it's listed as a model 442-700E. Looking at the link from Gas-Leak the date stamp is 10 14. I searched for the code "442-458E" and found a Russian retailer link with a picture of the light silver colour Duel fuel Peak 1. And here I was excited to post that the 442 is still being made in Europe, looks like I missed that boat by 2 months, d'oh.
My thanks to all for the above posts on-topic. I have (wrongly) etched in my crusty old brain that for these type Coleman 1 burners that only the 533 remains. I had thought production for the entire line (400, 400A) 400B feather and 442 ended prior to 2014 so I'll try to remember this updated information. I just may need to buy the newest model year 442 as a reminder . The label indicates Coleman US but we know from other models that does not mean made in US (ie same Coleman US labeling on 550s made in Canada). I will be interested to know where the newest 442s are made. No where can we find that Coleman parts we not outsourced but my recollection to-date is stoves continued to be assembled, boxed and shipped from US (until model production ended). This more modern 442, where ever it is made, may have the 533 being made right along side it (they use same burner). Now I'm less sure if these were outsourced or not? thx omc
I realize this is an old thread but just want to share that Coleman still makes the 442-726J. I just picked up 2 brand new ones at a Coleman Outlet store in the US. Both are date stamped 5/19. Made in the USA, for sale in Japan. Black. Not dual fuel. Absolutely identical to my 400B I bought back in the early 1990s except for the model # and Japanese instructions on it.
