Hi All, I recently won an auction on an Optimus 8R at a web site whose name, er, escapes me. It's been painted with what looks like black Hammerite, and not very well at that; I'm down with how to strip it thanks to some excellent threads on CCS (thanks Guys), and I *think* the right colour to go with is Toyota Light Blue Metallic, but I'm not sure whether to use brush or aerosol to repaint for a nice finish. What recommendations can you make on this? Tom
@TeeEmPee No advantage in brush painting Tom unless it’s a paint unavailable in a rattle-can. Brush or spray, as ever preparation of the surface is crucial. John
John, thank you. Beyond stripping paint and rust, and generally getting the case back to bare metal, are there any other procedures you would recommend for prepping? T
My tip: Bare metal; no flash rust. Clean with naphtha if flash rust appears. Then use an etch primer before final enamel. Cheers Tony
Similar to above; strip to bare metal, 12 hour phosphoric acid soak, rinse and dry, spray primer, spray enamel
