It appears that the old man from the sea is a wee bit chilly. Must have been in the morning and he's waiting to get primed. Good photo's and a great meet i'm sure. Next year if i can wait that long otherwise i'm over there before then. May just hang around for the meet too. lance
I just got to the end of page 4, looks like I missed a good weekend. I was planning to go but as usual as the time got close the plans fell apart. I was booked in at the local bike tyre dealer to have a new boot on the front of my HD on the Saturday before. They phoned and told me they'd ordered the wrong size and would have to re-order and fit it the following Saturday. Then one of my dogs died on bank holiday Monday. The correct size tyre arrived the following weekend (while the camp was in full swing) so I went down to have it fitted only to find a mile and a half queue outside. Got home Saturday afternoon thinking about the rain forcast for Sunday so decided to stay at home. I'll be there next year. "Flying" Cyril.
The weather forecast did not bode well for the Newark weekend. I had a three hour drive from the beautiful City of Durham. The further south I drove, the worse the weather became. I drove through four or five lightning storms. However, just before getting to Newark the sun came out. On arriving at the campsite, the skies were clear and the sun was hot. The first to greet me was Ed Winskill and his wife Debbie - a wonderful couple who I mentioned earlier in this thread. Ed had driven all the way from London to meet people at the Newark gathering. He was just going to leave to go back to London when I arrived. We got talking and then Henry arrived and then a short while later, David S arrived. Ed beamed and dived into the chat. When Ed left I thought I had better start putting up my tent. David did the same. I just got my groundsheet pegged out when the sky darkened and the heavens opened. We took shelter. Thunder and lightning. It was another three hours before we could resume erecting our tents. The next morning dawned fine, bright, sunny and warm. This weather stayed the same for the whole meet. However, as the skies were clear, the nights were quite cold. Most of last year's attendees were there and some notable Newark newcomers. It was great to see Doron, all the way from the Holy Land. How he managed to get an FL6 home with him I have no idea! It was also great to meet George Linekar for the first time. He is a real master fettler with a great font of knowledge on stoves. I, like others, took many photos, but will show below only those which differ from those already published. The one photo I forgot to take was of my own stove display. Fortunately, Keith took one and if anyone else did, please could you email me a copy. Roy arriving on his trike, pulling a large trailer-tent. None of my sets of photos would be complete without a shot of David 'The Flame' Shouksmith. Here he is priming his triple burner! Ah, that's better. Three roaring cherry-reds. Paul and Henry come to take photos of the triple burner. Flushed with success, David decides to light a Bialaddin heater. Kev looks on. David, with the help and knowledge of Doron, fettle a Milspec Coleman lantern. With a new vapouriser fitted, a new mantle needs burning in. David always tries to be authentic and insists and lighting the mantle with a long match. Unfortunately, the matches were a bit damp. Not to be beaten, Doron lights the match for David with a gas lighter. Doron warns David that this type of lantern is renowned for a very low powered output. Sure enough, the lantern does not shine very bright at all. So David and Doron take the lantern to Neil McRae to test using his special light meter set-up. The tests confirmed it, the lantern scored the lowest ever figure for a pressure lantern - 5 candle power! Never mind, David has plans for it and is determined to improve its output. A great picture of Colin and Henry resting. Late on Saturday, another friend from last year turned up - Woody (Steve Wood). He took a small package out of his car, a wonderful 1986 Citroen 2CV, gave the package a flick and out popped a self-erecting tent. When lighting the stoves for the world record attempt for 111/22 stoves, those doing the lighting did not have time to take any photos. Here are Henry, Roy and Paul being very intense. Another shot showing Ross, Colin, Roy and Henry. Finally, my Monitor BIG burner. I posted images on the forum a few weeks ago. This shot shows its first lighting. It is just warming up (the flame ring is cast iron and takes a lot of heating). The burner in full flow. To get some idea of scale, if you look carefully, you will see Paul's head to the right of the burner and his can of beer. A shot looking down on the intensely hot burner head. Next, a couple of very short video clips. Please remember your speakers so you can appreciate the sound of the burner. Well, another Newark meet over. I'm looking forward to next year's gathering. If you can get to it, please come. You won't be disappointed.
It was when you finally got out of your pit, you lazy b*gger... Helluva centre pole for such a small tent! - how did that go in the 2CV? I will DEFINITELY post my pics later today, I promise!

Hi lads Great photos, Trevor are Aldi selling a flare up detecting GPS systems or are you just following David around 24/7 with a camera. I've seen Davids lamp and it's improved I'm sure its making at least 8 candle power now, I needed shades. 8) 8) 8) 8)
