Hey. Has received a Radius No. 20 which is almost like new. The picture below shows the lipstick and a brass net as sits inside the lipstick. My question is whether this brass net is necessary to does the stove work? Can this be cleaned and what do I possibly need? I have something very thin and fine-meshed new brass net lying around, can I possibly use it to make a new one? I'll upload pictures when I'm done with the stove. Cheers Tom
Your stove might work without it but it will probably hurt performance. The mesh serves a few purposes. It helps filter the fuel and it aids in a steady capillary like action helping the fuel flow evenly. I've tried removing it in some stoves and I got an occasional "whoosh" or an irregular pulsing. Swish it around for a few minutes in a vinegar bath then rinse it off in the sink. Repeat as needed. Jerry
As above by Jerry, but I let soak in hot vinegar longer, 15 minutes or more. Unroll enough first so it will fit whatever you soak it in. Use a small brass bristle brush or what you have to gently brush both sides of the mesh. Pretty rare to toss it. Duane
I usually burn the carbon off with a blowtorch then unwind and clean with a toothbrush. You need to be careful not to melt the gause though.
