My father had two brass camp stoves; one a SVEA No. 121, the other a Radius No. 21, that had been converted to oil lamps. Dad was Norwegian, but studied in Sweden, and traveled there frequently, but I have no idea when he acquired these. I had them polished up recently, but I don't know what sort of fuel to use now that they are serving as lamps. Purchased a bottle of "Medallion clear lamp oil" but I'm not sure that's the right thing. I'd be very grateful for guidance. Also, one of the lamps is missing the smaller cap for the place where the fuel is filled (I think!). Is there anyone who sells spare parts?
That’s not the filler hole, the threads are to hold a cap that seals the burner outlet from fuel leakage when the stove burner was detached from the fuel tank for transporting or storage. With those wick burners the ‘keeper cap’ as it’s known is superfluous. For appearance’s sake, a replacement is available, though not of Svea brand, from The Base Camp. The lamp oil you’ve bought will work fine. Presumably you have thr necessary glass chimneys to fit the burners? Base Camp again if not. The filler caps are the larger diameter caps on the top of the tank. Unscrew the whole thing and not just the central air screw.
The fuel you bought is correct. The smaller cap you are referring to is not needed for your set up. That cap served to cover the hole where the stove's burner attached during transport. Jerry Looks like John beat me to it.
But thank you all the same! I'm so glad to have discovered this site and have your answer(s) so I don't damage these two lamps.
