Well, I've four pieces of Tilley propane literature which show their propane ranges during the Dunmurry period (1961-ish to 2000):- 'Out and About with Tilley' 'Tilley' (imaginative, huh!) 'Tilley - A Lot More Than Lamps' 'Tilley for Outdoor Living' (handwritten date possibly, 3/82). All but the last show the Tilley Trio so it may be reasonable to suppose it had vanished from the range by the early '80s. The Trio is described thus:- TRIO High speed burner and grill. Three separate cooking operations at once - boiling, grilling and frying, or simmering on top of the grill. The grill pan can also be used as a frypan or, if inverted under the grill, as a deflector plate to increase the heat on top. Dimensions: 18 x 6½ x 3¾in (46 x 17 x 10cm). Weight: 5lb (2.3kg). I'm pretty sure the metal grid on top utilises passive heat rising from the grill arrangement underneath. Hope that helps...
Many thanks for the info, much appreciated. According to the delivery labels on the box, mine is 1970. I hadn't thought about turning the grill pan upside down to increase the heat above. I'll try it at some point and see if it makes a difference. So far, I've just tested the grill with toast which it does very well.
