Hi folks; I’ve been working on getting this little baby purring, and I thought I had it cleaned up and ready, including a test burn, until I went to turn it off. It wouldn’t turn off. I unscrewed the fuel tank cap to release the pressure, and was able to blow it out. But I’m guessing the fuel isn’t supposed to keep coming out. How to I fix this, so off is off?
If it's like real 8R's, the gear rack for the cleaning needle and the valve spindle gear must be correctly timed. If the cleaning needle rack bottoms in the valve body before the valve stem seats down tightly, the fuel will continue to flow.
Hi @DCWIexplorer . Here is a link to some Optimus instruction to fitting parts to a regulated stove burner with jet cleaning needle. It might help explain the operation of device: https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/fitting-replacement-parts-on-regulated-burners.8843/ You do not need to strip down the burner of your stove...only reset the timing of the cleaning needle. In the picture the cleaning needle is showing through the jet. Is it stuck in that position? Does turning the spindle clockwise lower it at all?
If it operates like an Optimus 8R, the control wheel shuts off the fuel flow by being turned fully to the left. Fully to the right pricks the jet. Full fuel flow is around the midway point. Tony
Well, I tried adjusting it, and it still won't turn off. I'll try some of the other suggestions here. I'm a little confused; is the fuel supposed to be turned off when the needle is all the way elevated, or all the way down? Here's a video of the stove in action, and how it won't turn off...
"Clockwise to Close" As the sticker says, right to turn off. Can you remove the cleaning needle from this model of stove? I do not know this clone/copy stove. If you can try it without the cleaning needle. Be Aware!!! Opening the filler cap of a burning stove can result in flame burning you badly. It should be blown out before opening the filler cap.
1 remove needle and check - is valve properly working -------- if no clean valve surface - till valve works properly ------ if yes close the valve insert needle - to the hole/only insert! opening valve count "clicks" /valve rot-needle/ must be 4 clicks after 4 click - close valve - needle goes down - screw jet --------- check is valve works properly
