Hi all, Very new to the world of kerosene stoves but for some reason I have become obsessed. It started with inheriting my grandfather's primus but now I have just received another two stoves. Can anyone tell me anything about the two stoves below. One seems to be a number 54 silent Primus with external regulator thingee. On the bottom I can see a D4. I also notice that the burner cap actually says SVEA on it. It does work but it seems to be operating at low output. I would say that about half of the holes in the burner cap are producing little blue flames. See first three pictures below The other one seems to be a number 0 Roarer primus with a missing flame ring. It has a Z on the bottom. The legs seem to detach. Does this mean that the whole thing is designed to be collapsible? Also I notice the filler cap says Darlton on it. Seems to burn hot but there is still a fair bit of yellow flame. I have been scanning through the threads for info but would be appreciative of anyone who could give me a helping hand in finding out more about my new additions or tips on how to get them working better. Cheers!
Yet another example of how contagious "Stove Pox" can be. KK was innocently introduced to just one stove, and now there are three, and who knows how many by tomorrow or next week? Does the WHO have any advice to stop the spread? Is a vaccine being developed? This really is a worldwide issue. Recalling the WHO, wasn't there a song about My Generator, or similar? Quite prophetic! Nice stoves, by the way. Love the one with the regulated burner!
Welcome to CCS @Kiwi Kerosene Two good stoves that should clean up nicely. 108 years old. The Primus 54 is a colapsasble stove for traveling but the travel cap appears to be missing (seals the fount when the burner is removed). The regulated burner isn't original but a very handy after market accessory. Have you tried pricking the jet to make sure it's clear? Replacing the seals may help it's performance or there could be a restriction in the fuel pickup tube or the burner.
@Kiwi Kerosene Nice stoves, as mentioned will clean up and have the potential of running well. May be worth having a closer look at the letter stamped on the tank, I suspect it's an O versus a C. Another possibility is that it's a C and may be the date code of the Number O tank bottom. Trevor's Hyperlinked index shows the Primus 54 beginning in 1925, date code O. would be nice to see additional photos of the tank stamping's on both stoves.
I also think it is an "O", not a "C". (I compared it to the C in Stockholm). A clearer photo will tell!
Yes my bad. I got my descriptions mixed up. The number 0 is marked with a C and the number 54 is Marked with a Z. I have given them a rough clean up so I will post some more updated photos. Thanks for all the information everyone! What a community
