I bought this stove at a garage sale in the 1980's. I think it is likely new. I see no indications it has been used. The stove has no brand name or other information to identify it. It resembles a Whisperlite but I would think a Whisperlite would have some brand information on the stove. camp stove 1 - Copy.jpg camp stove 2 - Copy.jpg

That looks like my el cheapo butane stove I bought at a drug store as a backup to a fire if conditions were too windy to cook over a fire. Got it maybe 30 years ago, cost was under $10.

Is "el cheapo" the manufacturer or the name of the stove?

I thought it was probably an el cheapo. I've never tried this one, in part, because I wasn't sure what fuel it used. So how well did yours work. You're still here so apparently it didn't blow up.

Is El Cheapo a Columbian stove baron?

The butane canister is labeled "Scripto", which I think was a pen and perhaps cigarette lighter maker. They may have entered the stove market in the late 20th C.

Yes. El Cheapo makes the majority of camp stoves in the world and sells them under different brand names. Although El Cheapo is in Columbia it is owned by the Chinese and uses Chinese workers to make the stoves. The stoves are made to the high standards of most Chinese products, probably why so many catch on fire when they are lit.

I'm old and forgetful. Don't be too surprised if I post the question again next year, or maybe sooner.
