Howdy, all, I just want to hear from you, how you dealt with a spindle that refuses to come out. Apparently, the spindle of my 8R is prevented from coming out all the way, because of the disk that holds the graphite packing is not moving. I am afraid that if I force it, it will shear off the spindle. I surely do not want to find out how strong the spindle is. Had any body encountered such a nuisance before and taken care of it? David, The image below is linked from Brunton's website. The SVEA123 uses the same parts as the Optimus 8R. Although the spindle might be a bit longer so I am not sure they are completlely interchangeable. Anyway if you look at the image below you will see the spindle is one solid piece passing through the graphite packing. After removing the nipple and needle (if you have one) spray some WD40 or some other lubricant agent inside. Remove the nut that is holding the the spindle in place and turn it untill it stops. You should be able to pull it all the way out once it clears the thread.Tilt the stove so the lubricant flows towards where the key would go and let it sit for awhile. it was not what I expected to hear, good gentlemen. My spindle on this particular 8R does not turn enough to clear the thread. The packing materials block its further movement necessary to clear the thread. I am afraid the torque necessary to push the packing out is greater than the brass spindle can handle. That's why I was asking... bark2much.
Just turn all the way counter clock wise and jerk hard it will come out. All of mine have been the same way. Rune, If we keep using your "float testing procedure" none of us will have a stove left to play with. Rob
No, but you can build quite a good marina with all that stoves. Bark2much, its a North Norwegian word saying: "Med list og lempe kan du lure en tynnebotn i ei kjerringrau" In english it will be something like: With patient you can put a barrels-bottom in your wifes arse. You need lots of penetrating oil. Work your spindle in and out for a couple of thousand times, and it will eventually come out. You can try Hoppes Solvent No. 9. Its a Solvent for cleaning barrels. Hey, Rune, I cannot imagine what magnitude of patience North Norwegian wives have demonstrated with their "patient" husbands who are trying to, uh, I cannot type it, man. Why would North Norweigian husbands belive that that is necessary? Good golly! Anyway, I will see if I can wear out the spindle per your suggestion. By the way, how big do the North Norwegians make their barrels? bark2much.
From 60-120 litre, thats a good size. I preffer the 120litre, for salting fish in :-) Its a pitty the book "Vett og Uvett" not is translated to English. Its the closest thing to a "bible" for us up here.
