Hello all you Stovies Recently picked up this coleman Model 1 Stove. Nice Christmas Present! Very cool stove. My first and only one. Id like to complete it an get it running, perhaps do some restoration/renovation on it. Tried to fire it up last night, did the "hot Blast", pumped up the tank, opened the valve, fuel in the primer cup, it it up, generator got hot, moved the burners in place ....flames went out. I must be doing something wrong. Help requested. Also it has the oven pieces but no foldable Oven rack or the sheet metal heat difuser that sits on top of the burners. Fat chance that anyone has these? .
If you are quick enough, when you move the burners into position sometimes they will light. Usually, I preheat/hotblast, then move the burners, then re-light at burner. There are some good youtube video's of this.
Thanks, Ill try that. Separate question: as I understand it I open the air valve at the end of the tank above the Pump, then pump up the tank....the question sis do I leave it open> or claose it?
HI Duane ok Thanks. so just to be clear: open it when pumping , then close it. How many turns on opening it? Finally got it fired up
Open a few turns, enough to make pumping easy. When done, very quickly close it while keeping the pump pushed in to prevent a loss of air. Duane Posted to CCF too?
Ok So I decided to take it apart and do some restoration. Mainly clean the generator and paint the tank. So do I take generator apart at the the valve end and if so any tips and what to do / watch out for? I understand that there are "rods" inside that can be cleaned? Will I need to replace the Packing material ?and is the packing material available anywhere? Also I think there is packing material at the tank juncture as well so not sure I should take that apart. Please advise. Thanks
Take that nut off gennerator and tip off. Super simple, and yes, long metal rods. Seven? I don't recall. Certainly is packing at tank junction, when I did mine I did not have to mess with it, just reused it as is.
Ok take off the the tip end . What about the valve end ? Take that off too? In order to pull the tip cleaner out?
I have a couple of model 1 stoves. I would like to get one of them working. The leather cup in both is pretty much disintegrating. Are you replacing your leather cups? if so have you figured out if the common 216-5091 cup fits? Really appreciate you detailed pics. Very hard to find pics that show the individual parts. Good luck with your project.
Well, I don't replace em till I have to. Most of em, even on #1's just take some oil. You get to be the judge of that. Badly torn is junk. I make my own cups....usually, I do have few rolling around that I bought years ago. I would bet the regular Coleman leather cup would work, but smarter people than I will probably confirm or deny. Looking forward to see yours running hot!
The #1 takes a cup around 11/16 to 5/8. Thefettlebox has the correct size. I had to get some washers for my P-W lanterns and they also fit my Turner stove pump from Basnett's, they have offerings on the bay. Duane
