I just bought the Bonfire Essentials bundle that comes with the stand and lid. I wanted the lid so I could retire for the night if there was still a small burn going but I'm now wondering if I even need to invest in a cover for it. The lid should keep the water out so why would I need a poly cover in addition?

Put a cover on it after it's cold. These are not food grade stainless steel and will over time rust. Food grade stainless is 316L stainless anything else will after being heated from your fire will begin to rust over time. Too expensive in my book to leave uncovered.

What poly cover do you mean?

I would store in when not in use.
