Ok I have booked the pitches. What a faf it was (it was via the site pitch up). Cost slightly more (had to put deposit down). The site says no fees but the price went up by £2!! (sorry guys). So I have paid a £3 deposit each for your pitches (bring a beer lol! that will do). you both owe £17 CASH to the site when you get there. I will send you each your booking id etc in a pm.
Back from a lovely weekend with @presscall @Twoberth and Anne. John will post pics later. A basic but no more then Newark (tap and toilets). VERY quiet ( lovely). Pitched at the side of the river. A bit cold at night but we were warm in sleeping bags. Great to meet up. Looking forward to Newark.
An excellent weekend! Thanks @G1gop for organising, and for yours and John’s (@presscall) company. This is the river running through the campsite. First night’s meal was (pre cooked and frozen) pheasant breast stifado with Mexican rice cooked on the Parasene features here, Parasene Double Burner stove. Followed by coffee on the Trangia and a camp fire Next night’s meal was less exotic - bacon and eggs with soft tortillas. Went fishing with John Saturday morning, but no trout to be seen. However it was a beautiful river, My camp near in an open meadow But most camped near the river. This is John’s camp and others, who were mainly from Liverpool, which is not too far away The lambs seem to enjoy licking last night’s wood ash!
@G1gop @Twoberth Marvellous weekend with you guys, thank you. Moorland above Denbigh, Snowdonia range visible on my route to camp. Arrival at camp, wooden bridge over the river flanking the site. Site is a sheltered valley. I camped alongside the river, the sound of it tumbling over rocks an enchanting sound to send me off to sleep. I photographed my pitch (tent, tarp) from a grassy outcrop at the river’s edge. The toilet block. Functional, clean, spartan (no hot water, much less showers). In THIS post I invited thoughts on tarps. Drawing on the experience of CCS members, my set-up suited my requirements perfectly. The basic structure, four poles, tarp dipping into the prevailing wind direction, my car parked as near as possible (guy lines permitting) to act as a windbreak. Coleman windscreen erected to totally ‘plug the gap’ and make my cooking/socialising shelter cosy. More paraffinalia added. Windward side … … handy to catch the sun later in the day. A Workmate doubled as a firm base for a light stand. … and to take my Tilley toaster. Shadows, at dawn. Night-time illumination, courtesy Hippolito 150cp (a little kerosene guy), Canadian Coleman Easi-Lite, USA Mil-Spec. The Hipolito. Cooking, I used THIS Optimus 22 hybrid, which worked really well. Also, a Canadian Coleman Easi-Lite. Alan, Anne, Jenna, me. Jenna camped near us and photo-bombed. Duncan fly-fishing. Mist on the hills overlooking the fishing reach. Footbridge over the river. John
After Newark it was suggested another camping meet. The suggestion is where we were last time. and from mid Aug through September. It has been suggested mid week, but I understand others may have work commitments. Owing to my sisters stroke recently, I will not be attending and we have cancelled all holidays for the summer as it is highly likely my sister will come to stay with us when she comes out of hospital. Who else would be interested? Alan
I’d be happy to head back there. My compliments, Alan, on your commitment to helping your sister at a very difficult time. John
@presscall @Twoberth @Outdoorsdad Further up the thread there is a link to the campsite. Very friendly.
Yeah it's more south/Midlands to me I'll have to decline a bit to far. Yorkshire is more in the middle lol
