    I could not resist this nice Primus no. 5 on swedish auction-site Tradera. For app. the same price as a bag of groceries I got this nice silent burning 2 pint stove.

    I cleaned the tank with some clean kerosene. Not surprisingly the stove needed a new pump leather and the spring in the nrv was disintegrated. I also changed the burner head washer/fireproof packing above he spirit cup.

    When I made my first cup of coffee on this seemingly unused stove there was a bit of smoke/kerosene fume coming frome underneath the spirit cup. Should I put a burnerhead washer underneath the spiritcup as well?

    @Outdoorsdad and @hikerduane thankyou.

    After taking off the burner head and the spirit cup it was easy to see the sorry remains of a washer. I quickly scraped of the remains of a washer:

    And after i stalling another washer all is fine:

    Next time I will keep in mind not tightening it too much. But for now it seems fine.

    by the way, can someone explain why coffee made on a brass stove taste so much better?

    The washer material shrinks fractionally after first firing and a seal is restored by tightening the burner.

    I hate the dreaded wisp of smoke after fettling a stove, even worse on a 96 is seeing kero run down the fount.
