    @snwcmpr

Got my FULL refund thanks to PayPal, therefore rubbing it in the online Frauds face and did some seriously deep searches and found the above pictured stove.

Once I receive it I will update the pictures with home background and officially subscribe to Forum. Anxiously waiting for the day to have something to contribute and share!!

The seller is a collector of a different kind, but was very thorough in making sure I was also legit and would use/take care of stove since he had had hopes of displaying, but not necessarily using.

I did find some other stoves that I may obtain in future  , bug has bitten and infected :D:content: !

Yep....been a long time lurker here, sorry about resurrecting an old post, but I just want to confirm xdvson.com is a scam no doubt about it. I bought (well, I thought I had bought...) an Svea 123R and a Sigg Tourist cook kit. They were asking $61.97 for the set, a good deal if not great. So, like a dummy I jumped on it and only later did some snooping on the site. I noticed all the prices were in the range of $50-$70....even for stuff that was worth WAY more than that.

That got me a little worried so I did a Google image search and found the same pictures on several different sites, then got an email saying the kit was being shipped from China?

Well, I got my "stove and cook kit" today, and I'll be darned the stove and cook kit look suspiciously like some sort of cheesy Chinese scarf.....don't think I'll be cooking up much top raman with that scarf.

I had printed out all the correspondence I had with them and headed down to my bank. To rectify my stoopididity the bank is going to have to cancel my card and re-issue a new one without a guarantee of getting my money back due to the fact the business is in Chine, instead of the US...

I had to endure "the look" from my Wifey for a little while, but only for a little while.....I grabbed a beer and now I'm out in the garage playing with my other stoves, makes me feel a little better.....

    Welcome to CCS Mike.

    Was it a debit card?
I imagine that it was, and so you do not have the same purchase protection as with a credit card.

Thanks for the welcome snwcmpr...and yep, it is a debit card. My credit union has taken really good care of me for over 50 years....I have faith in them. Since I have retired, throwing $60 down the crapper hurts a bit, but I can still afford a beer and a gallon of Coleman fuel.....

    Welcome aboard, Mike.

Most debit cards these days are processed through CC merchant services, and do have the same protection as a credit card. If your debit card says Visa/MasterCard/etc on it, you're golden.

Thanks Marc! My debit is Master Card, that's good to know. The worst part about this whole thing is......the Wifey [-X You know, the eye rolling, heavy sighing.....asking me if I have learned my lesson  I don't have the courage to tell her no.....

I think I will get my revenge though, I reported xdvson.com to the FTC, BBB, USPS and every "is this site a fraud" website I can find....the Wifey told me I need to stop giggling so evily....I told her I was getting almost $60 worth of fun out of this.....

If you think you have protection using a debit card like you do with a credit card, I suggest you check with your bank. If they say yes, ask to see it in writing.

I confirmed with mine that although they will reimburse you, they are not required to give you anything back. This is why I won't make purchases with a debit card and recommend that others don't either. If someone manages to get your number and pin, they can easily drain your account. Although you're likely to get your money back, it's up in the air as to how long that can take.

I guess it really depends on whether you only have a couple of hundred dollars in that account that you can afford to be without for a while, or if it's your life savings at risk.

For troglodytic reasons I have no debit card or other bank card. I did for a little while once many years ago, and do remember visiting an ATM three or four times, so I know what one is.

With us it's either cash, check, or credit card.

I generally keep about $50 in my debit account until I'm ready to buy something, then I transfer whatever I need into the account. I'm lucky that my CU is very aggressive in fraud protection. One night about 11:00PM I got a call from fraud protection asking if I had made a purchase in New Jersey? I laughed, told them no, and that was that. You just never know what the hell is going on, have to be careful always.....

I got a call like that recently. I had made the purchase, and told them so. I also said thank you.
The did ask me if I was being coerced into the purchase. (Words to that effect).

Ken, I looked at the site when this thread first popped up, but haven't since then.

I use my debit card for 99% of purchases. Cash less than once per month, checks maybe twice per year. Debit card has zero liability for fraud, in writing, and my bank has backed that up with prompt action. I do agree, don't have your life savings at risk, but definitely no concerns about leaving enough in the account for the monthly budget.

While I know little of debit cards, the fraud protection does not surprise me. From time immemorial, banks have been responsible if they pay funds on forged checks or forged endorsements. So if your checks were stolen and used, you were never liable and the bank had to repay you if they paid on a forged signature (however sophisticated a one). But there was still administrative hassle, of course.

The difference in coverage of fraudulant charges between debit and credit cards are...

    Debit card.
The "fraulant" money is taken out of your account and you have to ask for it back. It is investigated before you get "your money" back. You pay fees if overdrawn or checks bounce.

    Credit card.
You get a bill to pay. You claim not yours. It is investigated. No loss at all.
