Anyone know if the typical Coleman Fuel Can (White Gas) — they sell in most outdoor stores — pour spout is compatible with the garden hose thread? When pouring directly from can, it spills. Thought about just jerry-rigging a short end of an old female hose connector with a few inches of hose attached. I’m not able to check currently as I’m out of town. Any help appreciated!
When pouring from the Coleman can.... have the spout (outlet on the can) at the opposite corner from the recipient container. Up. That way you are further tilted before fuel comes out. There is a diagram on the side of the can. (There used to be)
No, the threads are NOT compatible. A lot of auto parts stores have spouts that fit those cans, and other bottles.
Step 1 learn to use the can correctly as pointed out by Ken and Ian. 2. Google Coleman Fuel Filler. I have a couple of them but don't use them on the gallon cans. I have gone to using glass vinegar bottles of quart and pint sizes so I can fill a GPA easily without overfilling. The fuel filler fits those bottles as well as the gallon cans.
@Knee I doubt the rubber compound used could handle fuels. You'd have to test to see if the fuel dissolves it, but I suspect it will.
This is the Coleman fuel filler. The spout is a spring loaded cut off. When you put the spout into the GPA you have to press down to overcome the spring and open the fuel flow. when you take it out of the GPA the spring closes off the fount so you can leave the filler attached to the can as a cap.
Thanks for the image. I have one, and prefer to pour directly from the can. After learning how, and practicing, I no longer spill fuel.
Pouring “correctly” from a Coleman Can makes a big difference. I fill smaller bottles ( like Sigg bottles) from the gallon can and then fill my smaller stove tanks. That seems to make it easier to not overfill.
